No sony console on its early life sold cause of its merit as game console
all 3 had a quality above the competitors brand and even Sony itself branded products and at a more affordable price
PS1/X was for its CD player
PS2 was for its DVD player

No one knew this during that time. The quality compared to Hi-Fi's worth $1000 was a recent discovery and requires specific models of PS and a bit of tinkering

A great selling point, but not its only one. DVD players had become affordable and adults with disposable incomes that didn't play video games didn't need a "toy" i had a PS2 growing up and my dad had a DVD player downstairs on the big TV. He didn't need a toy.
