Actually, its likely the opposite. More than likely, they weren't going to put 2k18 on the Switch, but it started selling. So in order to make the worldwide release, they had to push back the retail and focus on having it ready digitally.

Sucks for people that are retail only, but likely wont happen with 2k19.

Switch is sold out mostly because of the shortage, not because it's "selling like hotcakes". 5 million units is nothing in the grand scheme of things, the Wii U had over twice that. Once it hits 20 or so then things may change

Are you looking at Japanese sales? It's been far outpacing 3DS's launch sales from the start outside of Japan. The 3DS was selling pretty well in Japan from the start, so Switch pacing with it there isn't a bad sign, especially considering that the sales are being bottlenecked by stock issues.
