All-Star Battle was just fine. Unbalanced yes, but that was likely not a concern. They managed to get all those characters to work in a fighting game context.

If you wanted a greater breadth of characters you'd need to switch genres, yeah. Some characters in EoH probably wouldn't work so great in a fighter, and some stand users couldn't work at all.

So how would they do it the stand characters? Should it just be the stands fighting with the characters in the background (which is lame) or should it be the characters fighting with the stands being special moves (which isn't really how it works) or should there be some switch-mechanic (which is contrived).

So? If it's a good game overall the Jojo skins and gimmicks are to prefer over most other. Like Clash of Ninja. It's not how Naruto characters fight, but it's a solid fighting game and the cool characters is an extra plus.

jojo could work as a tactics game fused with toribash fused with a classical adventure game, all in real time with pause
like you have your jojo, you can move him anywhere and tell him to do any action with his limbs (punch this way, kick this way, grab this, jump, walk, crouch, throw, etc), the level is some sort of real-world environment (a bar, a street, an egyptian mansion, etc) with walls and various objects and shit that you can interact with (destroy walls/floor, pick up objects, open doors, etc), and then everything should just try to have as many interactions as possible so you can pull bullshit like in the series
