2 gets a little annoying with how insulting and mean spirited it is. Most of the characters are straightmen, so almost all the quips are sarcastic passive aggressive jabs at the player. Sam is somewhat out of character as well since they forced him to also be a somewhat petty asshole.

Sam and Max was way before they turned into scamming scums, that started some years later with The Walking Dead s1.

Sam and Max season 1 and 2 were written by Steve Purcell so they're as good as they can get, Season 3 was all telltale but it was pretty fun and interesting, introducing new gameplay mechanics with the devil toys and going for a noir/twin peaks/twilight zone story.

I know I sound like a grumpy asshat and I'm definitely the minority but Season 2 while offering good gameplay and some funny situations tends to have crappy writing in comparison to Sam and Max canons. Like they stop being self aware, turn up the lolsorandumb and even date themselves with real people jokes (there was an Obama line somewhere).
Not gonna spoil it, but the big bad was one huge turn off and the whole thing was just unpleasant to sit through.
Season 1 just connected to me better, while what I learned from Season 3 is that apparently Telltale really liked molemen, and not making me enter the fucking office. Also Psychonauts.
