Been playing it for a while. Combat feels like it has improvements that really need to be added to the main game.

The character creator is way more detailed than I thought it would be.

For one the way healing works is only by healing spells, you can't even use items so no more "just spam potions to win" meme posts.

You also can't just hold O because you will get wrecked, and since you can't heal yourself when on 0HP because you can't use potions or do anything on 0HP except guard or run away, you need a team mate to do it.

Directional inputs on the shuriken and the katana feel more responsive than the current shuriken and katana. The warpstrike is identical though on both of those than in the main game. However both the shuriken and the katana have an aerial finisher now.

The royal sigils are nice way of adding abilities like airstep on every weapon or boosted cures, using the rogue sigil makes battles much more fluid.

Magic implementation here is much better than the magic in the main game. In the game as you know you have to use a whole slot to put in one magic cast, well here you have magic that is basically assigned to a weapon already, so say for example you have a katana with fira spell on it and a shuriken with thundara, if you switch to katana and press l2+O then you do fira, if you then switch to shuriken and press L2+O you do thundara. So you essentially can have 4 weapons and 4 different magic spells, if the weapons you have have magic on them that is.

Weapons also seem to be able to have up to 2 different passive abilities, one being stuff like magic, others being stuff like occasionally casts stop, % change of instant death, fire elemental boost.

The beta only has 4 weapons being Katana, Shuriken, Daggers and Hammer, though the hammer is basically just a lesser version of the mace from the main game. The daggers have a new directional sidestep roll kick.

Warping to warp point doesn't instant fill MP, only a little. Cover is useful

They do enough to kill stuff like doing their warp attacks and they heal you when you need to be healed. I was fighting some sabertusks and wasps before they spawned in and was losing HP fast because 10 enemies at once were attacking. That's another thing, enemies are more aggressive here than in the main game but also have more HP, but that maybe just because you are at level 11, once they showed up that horde got rekd.

The beta works with you choosing one of the three quests Cor gives you, and each of them has two parts to them.

So after you beat the second part it says "thanks for doing the beta test" and you go back to the main screen. So even though you get a bunch of stuff on the second time too that's the end of the test. Since this is only a 5 day beta test it's probably why, obviously in the full thing you would keep all the rewards you get from quests.

Disappointed that most attacks are just reused assets of other weapons from the main game (RIP pre-2015 animations and movement options like enemy parkour) and that the only fun feature of FFXV, the airsteps, not being possible (maybe when they'll implement Noctis in).

I can see having mindless fun once in a while with it, but I'd much rather them spend all the time, resources and effort into actually improving the main game. This mode is seriously unnecessary imo, and playing the beta only re-confirmed this for me.
