Aside from issues regarding the cast, what are your complaints about Fire Emblem Warriors?
>>
it's a musou game

Linear stage-based format is going the way of the dinosaur for musou. Spirit of Sanada had linked stages where completing optional objectives would give you new strategies in the next mission, DW9 is like DW4's more open format in an open world.
AI looks to be the typical amount of braindead that you'd expect from PS3-era musou, but DW9 is bringing back the aggressive AI from older games. All of this was okay for Hyrule Warriors, but it looks dated even in its genre now. The other spinoffs like DQH2 are doing a lot of things different.

I'm not heavily into musou games, but you seem to know a lot. What made this format ok for Hyrule Warriors in particular? Or is it just that musou has shifted a lot over the last 3 years?

Yup, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation.

Roster issue aside, from what they've revealed about the systems and shown in gameplay so far it doesn't really look like it's doing anything unique from other musou games in the past. Nearly all the mechanics they've shown so far are literally just copied over from DW and SW with a different name to fit the FE theme so they sound different but actually aren't.

While I'll wait until I see how the promoted versions play out(e.g. how Chrom will use his lance alongside his sword), it's just that the movesets aren't really quite so interesting compared to Hyrule Warriors.

You get sword, lance, axe, mounted versions, Robin brings his tome and the Levin Sword, Lucina promotes into using a bow to distinguish her from Chrom and Marth, and Corrin occasionally shifts into her dragon form.

In Hyrule Warriors you had people using musical instruments and wolves and all kinds of weird-ass stuff.

Here it's fairly homogenous even if there's a notable difference between the brawling Chrom, the electric samurai Ryoma, and your stock-standard fencing Marth.

I'm fine with the characters they picked for the roster, it's just that the nature of the series means it isn't quite as interesting as the Nintendo Musou that preceded it.

I hope the next time KT gets a musou collab with Nintendo, it's something from a more mechanically and thematically diverse franchise, like Mario or Kirby.

It's mostly just the time passing. There's really two directions for a musou game to go down, combat-focused (difficulty comes from not dying) or objective-focused (difficulty comes from battlefield management). HW was more combat-focused while most other musou at the time were objective-focused, so it stood out. Stuff like the cancelable dodge roll and lock-on (both of which are now in DW9) made it really satisfying to play, even if the AI still wasn't really up to snuff.
Like the other anon said too, FEW looks like it's just not doing enough new stuff. Character switching has been a trademark of SW for a while now, and DW8 even had its own rock-paper-scissors triangle. I'm not sure what they could do to alleviate it. Given that it's based on an SRPG series, it's the perfect game for them to really focus on the objective-oriented format of musou, where you need to learn which problem needs dealt with first and to deal with it as fast as possible. But so far it just looks like it's mostly based on HW.

It would have been cool if they had done something like in PxZ2, where Chrom and Lucina have a bunch of different weapons they normally don't use, and where Lucina even changes classes for a few attacks, and if the mages had different magic with varied effects. But it's true that the characters all feel too similar for now. Even the cavalry units they showed on stream really didn't seem any different from the infantry swordsmen.
>>
I'm not that bothered about the roster because HW showed me what to expect. That and I'm not an elitist.

Main thing is that it's just gonna be standard musou with nothing else unique.
>>
They're wasting a diverse movepool from all the different classes, so far the revealed cast is what 90% sword users? Sword based movesets are so bland in Musou games
>>
>>386041164
That's more an inherent issue of FE that 90% of characters of note are sword users.
>>
>>386038490
A lack of series representation. I'm a fucking Awakeningbabby, and even I think the FE13/14 shilling is ridiculous. They should have just slapped all the Lords in and called it a day. Sword users can have heavily-varied playstyles. Just look at something like Dissidia Final Fantasy. The problem is it actually requires thought on the developers' part, and we all know they're all lazy fucks.
