The pressures of being a modern HD game mean they have to go 3D. Traditional spritework is prohibatively expensive in HD. Drawn sprites are still pretty costly. Tansaku vanias typically have 250+ enemies with all their own unique everything, so imagine making that in HD. So my feeling is that they're aiming so high, it ends up making the project worse.

The people who played these games are perfectly fine with lower resolution graphics.

1. It's a NEW game. I played the last 7 heavily already. Nothing else really has the same formula. Most of the "metroidvanias" are really just Metroids, or simple platformers with some interlocking levels. I want some catchy music playing while my character runs around some place with a sword, exploring and fighting and doing cool shit.

2. Potential new games. Maybe the first one is a bit rough, but this will establish Artplay, and they will then improve upon the formula. This is an investment into a company. If Bloodstained fails, then Artplay is just gonna focus on mobile trash and Iga will join Inafune, Matsuno, etc in old devs forced to work on this shit.

From my experience with the demo it plays more like a hybrid of Aria of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia, and the soul/shard system has been expanded a bit.

There's now six types of shards instead of three: Magic attacks, passive boosts, directional magic controlled with the right stick, familiars, skills, and some unknown type that probably functions like the elemental equips in Lament of Innocence from the way it sounds. Weapons can still be improved with a synthesis system, but now you do it by gathering materials like in Curse of Darkness rather than wasting souls on them.

It's nothing groundbreaking but it seems like the goal is to mix elements from all of Igarashi's games to create a solid foundation for the series moving forward. Which would be boring if this was another yearly handheld Castlevania but it's been nearly a decade since the last one.

I love Dragon's Crown, but Dragon's Crown had maybe like, 30 or so total rooms for the entire game. With maybe about 14 color swapped enemies, a couple of bosses, and the 6 heroes, that's really not a lot. Probably half of the money went into the food porn and George going out to eat every day because there's no way that foodie wouldn't.

Both Castlevania and Bloodstained really aren't the same without the music blasting in the background. I didn't back the game but I got the ship demo from MEGA and really liked it. The boss in this new demo also looks rad and on point.

The stage could have a lot more enemies on screen for how open it is and the background lighting needs lots of work still. That's about it. I think this is shaping up nicely. To imply this will be another flop on the level of MN9 is just stupid. Nothing will ever be as insulting as MN9.

He didn't design or program those games, he didn't shape the combat or character design. He just oversaw those games whilst the actual game designers made the game. It's not like Kojima who writes, directs, produces and designs each of his games, IGA has always just been the guy that gives the okay to game builds and offers suggestions.

I love the games, but to say he is the entire reason the games were good is a lie. His team were the real talent, he was just a general overseer. Same as Inafune was with Megaman.

If Bloodstained is good, or even if it sucks, the credit shouldn't go to Igarashi, he's pretty inconsequential to the whole thing.

He was also co-writer and co-programmer on Symphony and he wrote all the games he was producer for with the exception of Order of Ecclessia. So he made all the characters in those games, he just didn't design them. Though he worked with the character designers (make my wife a character, and turn me into a Belmont). He also was the one putting pitches together to Konami get the games made in the first place.

While he wasn't the director, he did have more input than a simple businessman. But it is true that the producer often acts as the spokesperson who gets all the credit. For Bloodstained, Iga has made appearances with Suhartro Iida ("Curry the kid"), who is the director of the game. He was programmer for most of the handheld games, and did a few designs on the side (he made the Waiter skeleton, who threw curry, hense the nickname). He then was director of HD and is directing Bloodstained. Though the media still ignores him mostly.

It could be better but I'm honestly not expecting more than what were getting.

I think the biggest problem is that they picked an awful art style for their game. Hard realism never works especially in low budget 3d.

They should have had flat backgrounds and accented it with 3d for stuff that you climb or is important.

It's a bit there fault but them not knowing how to limit themselves for indie games.

Iga did the PSP game in 2008, so he thought he could replicate that. But he didn't know how bad Inti-Creates is at 3D. So bad he had to fire them. It's a real shame. I feel like MN9 and BS could have been great 2D 3DS games that could have gotten console ports if they were successful. They would have looked great, played great, and came out years before they did.

They hired a 2D handheld dev team to make a 3D game in Unreal. Inti were just mismatched.

Shenmue III I think will be good at the least, great at best. Yu Suzuki is legendary for pulling off amazing things.
There are very talented people working on Shenmue 3 such as Suzuki, Tak Hirai, Kid Nocon, etc. Alot of very capable people involved.

If Sega had re-released Shenmue 1 and 2, it would help alot, which of course means they won't.

My biggest nitpicks are that enemies don't stand out from the backgrounds half the time and the environment is too realistic and bland. I'm hoping the lack of music is just due to it being the e3 build because I'll be flacid if there's not some music playing.
game play wise it looks mostly smooth, the down kick looking nice and fast. The soul shard thing is already repetitive so hoping they vary it a bit or have it skippable otherwise when you randomly get a soul it'll kill the momentum of the game hard.
