>Prequel for the most unlikable character for a story everyones knows already with no time travel or anything

Why does this exist?
Why does anyone want it?
>>
>>386023435
Some liked her, some didn't. Sure its filler but they wanted to fill in the finer details about Rachel, right now all we know is that they were close friends, and she ran off with drug dealer man.
>>
>completely remove the one concept that made LiS stand out
Why do it

Hell, why even do a game about choices set in a timeframe with concrete events

Rachel will always die and Chloe will always turn into a degenerate, what's the point in literally anything we'd be able to do?
>>
>>386023435
Because we don't actually know anything about Rachel, just some scattered second hand accounts from people who either hated her, adored her, or knew of her.

It's a bit of lore to tide us over until a proper sequel.
>>
>>386023435
VA isn't even coming back and we know how Chloe's story ends (or is supposed to).

It's trash.
>>
>>386023779
That'd be better as some kind of short story packed in with the sequel.
Doesn't need a game.

But anon, the amazing writing and characters is what made the game stand out. I mean that's what it was praised for, right?
>>
>>386023887
It doesn't need to be anything, it's more of a standalone expansion than anything. I'd rather have it completely separate and early, than wait and have it bundled into a game that I'd much rather focus on.
>>
No one wants it, not even DontNod. They're not even making it.

>>

>It doesn't need to be anything
Exactly

Really, it shouldn't exist at all. Nobody needs to know Chloe's backstory, we got enough of it in the original game.
Fuckin' that was like, 60% of the story

But if they HAVE to do this story, there's no reason for it to be a game. A prequel doesn't work in this genre. You can't move backwards in a story where your choices supposedly affect the outcome.

And because it's Chloe, we can't even use time travel, which was the main mechanic of LiS.

So what's the fuckin' point?
It's obvious the game will have a concrete narrative with defined landmarks that HAVE to happen, why not just cut the bullshit and write the story, instead of wasting all this time and money making a game nobody fucking wanted.

Agree completely, she was such a piece of shit that there was no question I wanted to drop her like a rock and save everyone else.

Can't imagine who could write a character like that and expect anyone to empathize with them or want to help them beyond giving them a kick in the asshole.

>>64 hours in lis

How the game was like 10 hours at most if you took it really slowly, all all choices were A or B.
>>
>>386024432
I disagree entirely, a prequel works perfectly in this setting because we already know the outcome. The choices don't matter, Chloe has no control, and we won't have any control, so we're not being led on and we have nothing to bitch about when there's no grand payoff.

It'll be about us living through this grey portion of Chloe's life alongside Rachel, doing shit that's pointless in the grand scheme of things because everythings messed up, and will only get worse.

Taking away the time travel and putting us in a scenario with a set ending is just as interesting as the original game specifically because we won't be looking at the big picture, it'll be tighter written, no bullshit mysteries to be disappointing by.

This is pretty much exactly what I expected and wanted when I heard about a prequel, barring some revelation that Rachel had some mystic power bullshit of her own, that'd be neat.
>>

You don't need a game for that.
>>
>>386025306
>So there's no point in doing it.
There's no point playing any game with a story, because branching paths are the only reason to play narrative based games, same with books, Game of Thrones is garbage because it's not a choose your own adventure novel.

>You don't need a game for that.
I don't need anything, I do WANT this game, because It'll be entertaining. I'd take a comic, I'd take a short novel, but I'm getting a game, and I'm happy with that.
>>
>>386025306

this, it could easily have been a graphic novel or something
>>
>>386023435
>Why does this exist?
Because more people than the few you interact with here like it anon. Simple as. It did so well there are TWO LiS games being worked on right now

>Why does anyone want it?
There is no why, people do. They bought the orginal, and will buy this one up to. It's not really up for debate.
>>
Have they said anything about what the actual Sequel will be? I hope it's not a continuation of Max's story, I feel that's been told
>>
>>386024432
>So what's the fuckin' point?

TO MAKE MONEY! LIKE ALL VIDYA! ARE YOU ALL FUCKING DUMB?? There are more people than you meet on 4chins kids, people bought the original, and you can bet your ass even more wipl buy this one despite what you might "think" this ISN'T rocket science.
>>
>>386025696
Nothing yet, just it's existence. It would be hard to make a sequel to Max's story without taking a fanfic route of continuing one of the endings and dealing with the fallout, and that would tread familiar ground for too many people.

At best we might get a reference to "That crazy Blackwell scandal" in Arcadia Bay.

>>

To make a bloody point.
I don't care that my choices don't matter, I don't need choices to matter. I need the core narrative to be fun to experience. Game of Thrones is great as a static story and Before the Storm will be fine too.

Pretty sure they said it would be new characters and not have anything to do with Max and Chloe. At most you might get a minor character from the original show up (like one of the skater Bros but that's extremely unlikely.) Or a reference to something like the everyday heroes contest or something about Acadia bay.
>>

>>386026282
Well, the orginal LiS is set in 2011 right? Or 2012? Chloe was 19 years old in that. "Before the storm" Chloe is 16 years old so it's gotta be 2008 or 2009 at the most right? I like her design far better when she was 16.
>>
>>386026378
Just because you don't care doesn't mean it isn't a stupid decision that makes no sense.

I mean, LiS already pulled a cardinal sin of narrative design by reducing the entire game to a binary decision, the outcome of which erases EVERYTHING you did previously regardless of which choice you make.

But now we have a game that, by concept alone, invalidates any agency it attempts to give you.

So, why even bother giving you agency over the story to begin with?

The game is fundamentally flawed on the conceptual level.
>>
>>386026560
By this stage fans who bought LiS are buying before the storm because they want more Lore. Square-Enix are just giving the people what they want. LiS was mire profitable and sold more copies than Deus-EX Mankind devided did for them.
>>
>>386026549
I miss understood what you meant, I thought you said the original LiS was set in 2008. Sorry about that
>>
>>386026685
It would be more profitable to write a short novel, than spend tons of time and money on a new game based on a broken concept.
>>
>>386026560
>implying prequels are pointless

Just stop talking anon
>>
>>386026560
LiS pulled the cardinal sin of overpromising and underdelivering. The binary decision was perfectly fine, it was portraying them so damn blatantly and failing to follow them up which hurt the game as a whole.
Now we'll have a game that drops that pretence, the story will be shorter, more compact, and unconcerned with throwing up a bullshit air of importance. What you see is what you get, and all your choices are just roleplaying.

Honestly I think the game just isn't for you, you clearly have no appreciation or enthusiasm for anything about it. This game is a big piece of fan service to tide everyone over.
>>
>>386023435
ME3 problem, they made a retarded ending that they can't follow up on without pissing off at least half of the players.

Your fucking crazy if you don't think ALL the LiS fans are gonna go out and buy this. There is a bigger world out there than /v/ and this series is popular as fuck. Whwn it comes out, people will STILL be talking about it here for weeks. The fact that it is now withought the orginal mechanic will be irrelevant. This will sell. Screencap this, whatever the fuck, but our opinion on /v/ about wether this is a good idea or not FROM A BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE is absolutley irrelevant. That might make some of you mad or offended, offended o. Principle of "why the fuck should it be succesful" but that doesn't matter. It fucking will anyway.

Yeah no, it's totally fine when a game promising "your choices matter!" does the one thing that ensures your choices never mattered

>This game is a big piece of fan service
Weird way to say "low-effort cashgrab"
Fuckin' it's not even developed by the same team. They just handed off the shitty project to a bunch of nobodies.

Literally the only thing of note Deck Mind (previously Idol Minds) has done of note in the past DECADE is remastering the PS2 Ratchet & Clank games.

The HD collection wasn't exactly perfect, and the Deadlocked remaster was even worse.

This game is fucked. The writing's on the wall. It's a waste of everyone's time and money.
>>
>>386027279
Anyone who gets pulled in by "Your choices matter" is a braindead moron who deserves to be burned. I called the ending before the finale came out and loved it. It was purely the lack of a followup that ruined it.

And the rest is you just saying it's gonna be garbage, maybe, maybe it'll be garbage, maybe it'll be okay, maybe it'll be great and you'll eat your words, who fucking knows, anything can happen. I like what I've seen (Barring the sketchy voice acting) and it's cheap enough for me to buy when it comes out.
>>
>>386025471
>branching paths

There is literally NO game in existence (other than a few Visual Novels) that has branching paths or actual consequences to your decisions. Every game ever made has the same story progession. Even Witcher 2's famous 2nd chapter gives you the exact same story in both versions of Chatper 2, just a diffrent camp to walk aournd in.

Take Heavy Rain or other Story/Decision heavy games. Start any let's play and you will have the except same story beats in every possible playthrough.
Those kind of games are full of fake non-choices and shit.
>>
>>386027674
Exactly! My point being that branching paths are overrated bullshit.
>>
>>386027674
Until Dawn had choices that matter
Whether you want to count that or not is up to you
>>
>>386027562
Unless Deck Nine fired everyone and hired competent developers, I see no reason to believe this game will be anything more than painfully mediocre.

Cool Boarders 2001 is both their best and worst-received game, PS2 and PS1 versions respectively.

That's the caliber of developer we're dealing with here.
>>
>>386027674
>just a diffrent camp to walk aournd in.
so it makes you walk around a different place, talking to different people, learning different things making certain choices and missions available or not.
>>
>>386027842
No it did not- the last ~20 minutes of the game are ALWAYS the same same, no matter your choices.
The Story-beats are always the same.
As soon as a Character COULD have died, he/she becomes totally irrelevant to the rest of the story so her life/death doesn't make a diffrence. Again: Fake non-choices.
>>
>>386027879
