I'm ok with just a boss that feels like another player character all of a sudden in a game full of pattern heavy bosses. One of my favorites is Julius from Castlevania Aria of Sorrow. All of a sudden the boss is just a guy with Belmonts move set from old castlevania games. The only one that sort of comes to mind for me is Super Robot Wars Alpha 3. And you probably won't be playing that because it's a really long game, very text heavy, and also entirely in Japanese.

At the very end of the game, if you got the right secrets found, the final boss of Alpha 2 will arrive on the battlefield with all their boss stats and hp total intact, on your side. Fully controllable.
