Sonic CD focuses completely on exploration & the level design is radically different compared to 1-3 due to this so this is why you probably didn't enjoy it. 3&K incorporated exploration better into it's level design & while I'm not sure if you played that one it's a lot more enjoyable to most & based on the footage we've seen Mania resembles that kind of level design way more than CD. We are getting similar sexy aesthetics & vibes from CD though.
