I mean, Super is trash but Trunks specifically was always pretty ridiculous. Right off of the Namek Saga we got time-travellng son of Bulma & Vegeta who also knows super saiyan and kills Frieza and his dad with a sword. I don't think any series could get away with doing something like that in this day and age without being considered dumb, people just gave less of a shit back then I think.

I always felt like freezer should've been the last arc in the show. I mean doctor goro build Androids that are 10x stronger then a Galactic Genghis Khan that blows up plants for fun. Maybe the Android Saga first then boo. Then you could finish it off with the saiyan and nemak arc
