Which one should I play though?
story: Im moving into a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom house and I will be without internet that is strong enough to game online with. I have Skyrim and Oblivion + the shivering isles. So which one would you recommend and why?

I recommend you play Skyrim first. Its really comfy and what you need after moving. Oblivion feels empty and aged really badly.

OBLIVION > NoTN > Shivering Isles > Skyrim halfway (fuck the blades in this much better in Oblivion) >Dawnguard> rest of Skyrim > Dragonborn.

Oblivion has better quests (especially when compared to the dogshit Skyrim guild questlines), characters, Easter eggs, a little bit more freedom on character creation and feels a bit more "video-gamey" for lack of a better word. That being said Skyrim greatly improved on visuals, world building and exploration, combat, and overall feels a little more solid and linear - which, depending on your tastes, may be a bad thing.
Personally I prefer Oblivion butdespite what /v/ might tell you they're both very enjoyable games, especially when modded, whichever one is better just depends on what you like

no mods, sorry.
but alright cool. Ive never actually beat oblivion so this is why I kinda want to finally finish it.
>>385930105
ok. i was kinda leaning towards oblivion but I can see how you could say it aged badly. It came out in 2006 haha
Skyrim is more comfy, Oblivion is more open ended I guess. Both are fine, just depends how you're feeling
The rule of thumb for TES games is chronological order, you wont be able to get into the older games if you play the newer ones first so you're just counting yourself out a solid experience.

oblivion with shivering islands is a better experience then crummy skyrim.
only thing skyrim has over oblivion is slightly better graphics, big woop both games have ugly people.
>>385929901
Anyone who believes oblivion was better than skyrim clearly has not played it in the last 10 years
Oblivion looks like ass (which is mostly fixable with mods) but it's quests are incredibly fun and memorable. The gameplay is pretty okay. Skyrim is only for waifus. The quests are dull and the gameplay is ass.
op here
im leaning towards oblivion

what is the point of this thread? are you not going to play both?
>>385931734
its to have a discussion on which game is better to help inform me on which one to play next

You're gunna be sorry

Skyrim has notably better combat and looks better off the bat, plus it's easier to create better-looking characters. It's also more "cinematic" than Oblivion in the sense that the voice acting is better. The dungeons in Skyrim are rather linear in comparison to Oblivion's, but they feel more exciting on your first few playthroughs.
Oblivion has more RPG elements and better quests as a whole. The combat is floaty, but allows for some options that Skyrim doesn't due to streamlining and pruning of skills.
Skyrim is probably easier to mod than Oblivion. When both of these games are heavily modded, I'd say they're about on par with each other but for different reasons.
From what I can remember: A heavily modded Skyrim can allow for combat that's kinda like a Soulsborne game with in-depth character combat customization via perk overhauls, while it's kinda difficult for Oblivion's combat to escape its fundamental floaty nature. On the other hand, Oblivion heavily modded will allow for way more fantastical areas to explore and places to make your home that you can populate with NPCs that will walk around and converse with each other. In Skyrim, having a house full of NPCs is ironically really lonely due to there being no generic banter between NPCs.
Sex mods are easier to install on Skyrim. Combine this with the fact that there is an abundance of downloadable waifus, and it's very easy to see why Skyrim is the one of the best porn games ever.
If you play Skyrim first, Oblivion will feel unplayable later. If you wanna play both, start with Oblivion, if you want just one, get Skyrim (use mods for both).

>no mods, sorry.
oblivion has broken level scaling without mods.
>>385931582
better get a mod to do something about the scaling shenanigans. endgame oblivion is all storm atronachs and xivelai while damage sponge bandits run around in full glass and daedric armour

5 hour long video of concise point after point on why Oblivion is not as good as you remember. I do like Oblivion but if you think it's better you have a poor memory
>>385930847
No mods? That's like saying you want to enjoy a pizza without any sauce or cheese.
But if that's truly the case, I'd say that Skyrim is more enjoyable if you're going full vanilla.
Oblivion is great, but only if you have access to mods to correct the fundamental flaws it has.
>>385932560
>watching a fucking 5 hour long video instead of playing Oblivion again for 45 minutes and realizing it wasn't as good as you remember
Are you retarded?
Skyrim is shit
>>385929901
Just go play morrowwind. Its the only one that didn't prioritize graphics over gameplay.
Though the fair point: Skyrim can be relaxing with mods, but without its empty.

I don't have an opinion unless someone provides one for me.
