The only other Yoshi game in the same league as the original Yoshi's Island is Yoshi's Woolly World. A few people will tell you Yoshi's Story is decent too, but they're just blinded by nostalgia. Avoid the Artoon/Arzest games (Yoshi's Topsy Turvy/Yoshi's Island DS/Yoshi's New Island) like the plague.

The only thing Super Mario Bros. 3 has over World is the extra power ups which are so fucking rare that they hardly benefit you

Yoshis Island is the biggest meme game of all time, liked because it's one of the most casual games ever.

>Can't fall down pits because you have a hover jump and every other platforming heavy area has some kind of gimmick transformation
>Can't die to enemies because instead you just lose mario and have a ton of time to get him back
>It's not like getting hit by enemies is hard because your three main attacks are to eat enemies (instantly killing them) do a super fast stomp to attack them at an angle the enemies don't really attack at (instantly killing them) or to throw an egg using the stupid set aiming instead of proper 8 way throwing like gunstar heroes or metroid (instantly killing every enemy on the screen as it bounces around)

The game is full of the sort of LOOK AT OUR GRAPHIX shit that /v/ tears games a new one for if its a modern game to try and show off the special cartridge hardware the game uses that makes the snes more powerful in an attempt to make the saturn and ps1 look bad.

I'll admit that watching a speedrun of this game is pretty impressive, but the problem is that you don't even need a 10th of the movement or timing to actually play the game even semi-competently, and the majority of the actual play experience is wandering around samey looking hallways trying to find secrets (or in later levels, progression) while listening to the same annoying as fuck yoshi/baby sounds over and over and over
