Can some anons recommend me a JRPG with freedom in exploration/progression or one where your choices matter? Been looking at DQXI lately and while the game looks gorgeous I'm very disappointed to see that it's basically a more linear DQ8.

I'm playing Chrono Trigger for the first time. At the final boss so I'm doing all of the side quests first. And that GOD DAMN charge door near that GOD DAMN conveyor belt is GOD DAMN impossible to get to in time even with the conveyor switched. I have got to the GOD DAMN door with sparks around Robo's body and it still wont GOD DAMN open. Pretty fucking GOD DAMN good game though, anybody got any recommendations?

I'm playing DQ8 on the 3ds right now (hacked with orchestra ost and weeb voice acting). It's pretty awesome, just got to the abbey. I'm pretty floored with how great the game looks and how smoothly it runs. Makes me wish more devs gave a shit about the 3ds in its prime. Anyway, I want to make Jessica use daggers, is this a bad idea? I don't care about min/maxing, just not being totally fucking worthless.

Linear progression and choices generally just impact the survival of minor NPCs and don't really change the plot (except for a route split available on NG+ and the "choose you're waifu" at the end).

I'm playing through the Dragon Quest series right now and I'm having the time of my life. Started with 1 back in December and I just finished 5 yesterday. Picking up 6 now.

My favorite RPG was always Panzer Dragoon Saga or Final Fantasy V but right now I'm putting Dragon Quest III at that spot. The game's simply a masterpiece and an experience I never had with an RPG before.

Just depends, if the game is good I'll never lose interest. Honestly I find the "it get good 10 hours" stuff bullshit. I can get a rough hour or two even but anymore and I just won't bother. I play mostly snes jrpgs as well, being older they're naturally shorter.

Help me finish Persona 5. I'm at the last dungeon, but I can't find the strenght to finish it. the game drags too long for its own good, has some huge pacing problem and overall is an inferior version of Persona 3 with really no difference between the two past the dungeons, the horrible pacing and the bland cast.

When the team that formed Monolith Soft split from Squaresoft back in the late 90s, they had joint ownership on the IP to Xenogears. It's actually for that reason that when Square put Weltall in World of Final Fantasy as a super boss they had to abbreviate it to "XG" so they could avoid copyright issues. Since Nintendo now owns Monolith and Square wants to start making exclusives onto Nintendo consoles again, Octopath Traveler selling well could lead to future deals between Square and Nintendo. If there was enough fan outcry, I don't think a Xenogears remake would be out of the realm of possibility at that point, but that's only if Octopath Traveler does well enough to enable that. Square aren't really the type of people to try to double down and invest in something they think will lose them money, after all.

Just finished the PSP version of Innocent Sin, and holy fug was that story a ride. Trying to go through the PSN version of Eternal Punishment, but somehow the battle system seems... off to me.

I've been revisiting the Ar Tonelico games.
It's a love hate relationship.

They suck. But I'm obsessed with them because with a little polish they could have been great. The writing is ok at it's best, but they weren't quite hitting the right story beats or themes, like, I know what they're were reaching for, but they weren't getting there.

The character movement is always an issue in GUST games, even the 2D games I've glitched through the floor or got stuck mid jump between a wall and barrel.
In the Ps3 games, the movements are basic. You glide all over the place. There's no inertia. You jump and can control the direction of your fall because it's just cycling through animations. There isn't even a legitimate use for jumping in Ar NoSurge!
And speaking of Ar NoSurge. Character Models! There's like 6 npcs in the entire game. A Male and Female Child, Adult, and Elder. They don't even try to recolor the duplicates. Whenever there's a crowd of people you'll see multiple sets of twins.

It's like Sonic06 games were a huge mess, but a patch was never released and somehow earlier demos of the game were better than the final version.
