Hardcore mode damn near rescued it for me, but the later levels are still too anemic. I've played far worse, but it really could've been a lot better.

HGH's problem is that they had to basically retool the game after hitting the Sky/Bolo/Rotty stretch goal mid development, and doing so probably did a number on the budget (see: concept art for enemies in the in-game museum that are just being added in via PQQ).

It seems to have done fairly well regardless but now we have to wait on them to finish 3-4 more expansions before they move on.

nah, let's face it - shantae's magic is actually terrible to implement form a gameplay perspective, and turns every game they're in into a boring slog. the reason Pirate's Curse was so good was thanks to the pirate gear mechanics being completely movement based and well implemented.

Pirate's Curse is the best game in the series simply because it has better mechanics than the other Shantae games.

i'm a little worried from the stuff I've seen. there's an ability they've given her where she summons her minions, and they seem to have had an emphasis on adding ammo types for her gun (the worst part of piratwe's curse) i'm not really into that adding itself to the pirate's curse gameplay, but I'm a backer so I guess I get to see how it turns out anyway
