So it finally happened.

The last big problem with the Dolphin Emulator has finally been fixed. Micro-stuttering in games like Metroid Prime has finally been eradicated.

Shame I've already played nearly all the games worth playing for Gamecube and Wii. They're great consoles with a solid lineup of games on them, but the exclusive stand outs are almost entirely first party, the few third party games worth buying usually have a superior PC version by now making emulation of the Gamecube/Wii version kinda pointless. The games worth playing on each console are less than a few dozen for each, even fewer if don't count games you can get better versions of.
>>
>>385801858
What is this from ?
>>
Is Xenoblade Chronicles still the only game worth replaying for hd textures?
>>
>>385802002
Can you run games in higher resolutions with RPCS3 yet?

All the Demon's Souls screenshots I saw were 1280x720 or 1280x720 stretched to 1920x1080. Usually one of the main reasons I emulate anything 3D is to see them rendered in 3840x2160.
>>
>>385801858
they sure can make OoT and MM look nicer with texture mods and shit but they will never make them run faster than 20fps
>>

>>
>>385803831

>>
>>385803651
Some super turbo autist might be able to do that by hacking the code of the game etc..
You need to first find whatever the game is using to wait three frames to flip the buffer and change that to 2 (or 1 if you're really feeling lucky).
Then deal with everything that breaks in the process, that probably will be a shitton of things.
Will need to readjusts all the speeds of movement of everything, all the animations, deal with the physics fuck ups,counters...

A lot of work, but probably possible.

Of course, this version will only run well on N64 emulators, unless this same autist optimizes the game by rewriting the microcode from scratch, removing details etc..
>>
>>385803678
Okay, cool.

I'll jump on RPCS3 when that becomes a reality. Cemu has it but right now the process for changing resolutions looks like a bitch so I was just going to wait until it matures a bit more hopefully it gets integrated into a Gui rather than needing to download "graphics packs".
>>

>>
>>385803980
I wish they'd do some more work with games that aren't zelda, xenoblade x has some really retarded game breaking bugs that could probably be fixed.
>>
>>385802002
So what games are even worth playing beside Demon's Souls and Red Dead Redemption? One of the problems with last gen consoles like the PS3 and 360 is they actually have a fair small list of exclusives themselves and the console exclusives are fairly small. The only game I really wanted to emulate for either was Dragon's Dogma since it's native performance was bad on consoles but now that it's on PS4 and PC there really isn't much point in emulating it beside if I really want berserk armors.

I had a PS3 so and looking at my collection of games beside Red Dead Redemption and Demon's Souls there really isn't much I'd want to replay. Valkyria Chronicles got a PC port, MGS4 was a slog to actually play and the memorable stuff nearly all happened in cutscene or scripted sequences you can just watch on youtube, same goes for the uncharted games, rather boring to replay and all the best bits happen in cut scenes anyway. I dunno seems like the list of games worth playing on a PS3 emulator is kinda small. Sure it would be larger if you never had a PS3 but considering I have a PS4 and a PC the list of exclusive games that you had to have a PS3/360 to play and games you'd want to replay after going through them once is kinda small.

Considering Xenoblade X is in the top five games people use the emulator for I think it's still high on the priority list.

Zelda is on another level though, that's a recent game and probably has like 80%+ of the current usage. Once most of the bugs with Zelda are solved Xenoblade will probably be the next area they focus on. Hell Xenoblade X commonly shows up in their progress videos as is, it's obvious they know about it.

If I recall correctly there is even an older version of Dolphin which it runs better on, I forget which one it is though. One of the problems with emulation is fixing one problem with one game might exacerbate another problem somewhere else for another game so while they're constantly getting complains and bug reports for BOTW, they're probably getting less than a fraction of that for X. I guess the best way to get them to focus on it would be to document the problems you're having look through the bug list, see if it's already been posted, report it if it hasn't and try to contribute to the project.

Nier is not fun to replay, I can't imagine anyone putting themselves through Nier a second time.
Asura's Wrath has the replay issue as well, I've already played why would I play it again? Also Asura's Wrath is kinda the epitome of a youtube game. Since nearly anything worth reliving happens in a cutscene.
AC4/5 maybe, AC5 is like half a game without the internet. I guess if you never played either they're something.
Yakuza games are something though.
ZoE1 on the HD collection was never fixed like ZoE2 was so you'd still be better off replaying that one on PCSX2. ZoE2 is one of those games that PCSX2 has problems with though and might be worth it if RPCS3 matures well.
Folklore looks pretty and has some unique ideas but the game itself is kinda shit.

The rest I never played or have no interest in. I got more than enough Disgaea on PS2.

The text boxes are faster and to prove a point I want to get in the top 3 for speedrun times. My friend and I used to play it as kids and casually finished the game within the leaderboards rankings, and after seeing it run at games done quick we resolved that with a minimum of effort we could get one of the fastest times, if not the fastest.

And we did. But the US version is about a minute slower and if we did it on the JP version we'd be in the top 5 and could forget it.

I've tried the common iso sites and tried LOL googling it, but thanks.

I think CEMU has it, but people just pass around pre-compiled shader collections to get around it.

Dolphin reached a point where they decided that kind of workaround would be unacceptable, because if they ever touched the shader code, then at best people would start noticing stutters again as things were re-compiled, and at worst everything would break. Either way results in a ton of complaints and bug reports from people who wouldn't know anything about anything, just that they updated the program and it got worse.

The SPUs aren't multithreaded, just the PPE. And games only had access to 6 SPUs (there's 8 on die, 1 is disabled for increased yeilds, and 1 is reserved for the OS).
But that's not how RPCS3 works. It emulates the OSes thread scheduler so it can offload game threads different to how the PS3 did, and you can set however many emulated SPU threads to create.

mGBA:
>mGBA is a GBA emulator written from scratch with portability, accuracy and performance in mind. As of yet, it is the most complete GBA emulation effort. It aims to be easier to port and maintain than its older counterpart, VBA (or VBA-M).

No$GBA:
>For general purpose emulation, don't bother with these unless you happen to use a very old/outdated computer, these emulators are built around speedhacks, have lower compatibility and are prone to bugs. Use the emulators for the systems listed on the main page instead.

Mednafen is a multi-core emulator that got a Saturn core about a year ago and blows everything out of the water.
https://mednafen.github.io/
It doesn't have a graphical interface so I'm gonna give you this video to save you some time reading the documentation on how to get it running.
You should still read the documentation on how to set up everything, though.
Note that the files used are the PS1 BIOS files and that you need to find Saturn files in your case.

Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1 at least got plugins, some games will need x plugins, other games will need y. All games can be played nicely as long as you know which one to use for it

>>

It's really not that bad. Sure the amount of perfectly emulated games in hardware mode is small but the vast majority of games only have minor graphical bugs.

PCSX2 is fine

...if you have an i5 9600k @ 7.4ghz in order to play every game at a stable 60fps on software mode and then it's still graphically buggy at times otherwise it's shit and you should buy a PS2
>>
>>385832736
If you have a good VC and CPU, you should be able to emulate it pretty well. I was streaming it while playing at 1080, getting about 35-45 frames. (Emulator reports 60 because speedhax). Some older plugins for the emulator work better for certain games. EE Cyclerate set to 2, VU steal rate set to 1 and you should be good.

Looks really sweet ill have to check it out, thanks anon.
But without a GUI it looks weird as fuck to use, hell I thought SSF was a pain in the ass to use.
So do you need the saturn BIOS to run it?, I still have a copy of one of them from SSF but do you need more than 1 of them?
>>

SSF still plays fuck all games and last I heard they gave up on it.
Yabause is still being worked on but quite a few games dont work on it, the game I want to play doesnt work on it and it does not work with ps4 controllers which I use for all of my other emulators.
Yabause is at least more user friendly than SSF and you dont have to use Daemon tools.

Maybe things are better now since Mupen is said to be better, hopefully that will work for you
>>
>>385837705
The two files you need are mpr-17933.bin and sega_101.bin, the former being for US/EU games and the latter for JP games.
Note that the files must have this exact filename to work. If the files you have now for SSF don't work, googling "sega saturn bios" should get you results vey fast.
As for configuring the emulator, there's two complementary ways to do it. The first is the one you see in the video, where you use keyboard shortcuts to open functions. Open F1 in-game to see available shortcuts.
For everything else, open the mednafen-09x.cfg file in the rool of the folder. That file will have all of the options used by the emulators, which you can change at will.
To see what does what, read the documentation on Mednafen's site or in the included manual. The main stuff you're gonna sant to change is the "ss.stretch", "ss.xscale" and "ss.yscale" options. which dictate the display resolution.
Keep in mind that display resolution =/= internal resolution. Mednafen can't make polygons bigger than what they are.
Any other stuff you need to change, use the documentation.

Oh it is playable, sure, it's mostly the HUD effects and just in general 2D texturework and assets/art that's messed up. This includes things like Pokemon previews or the static effect on portraits in battles, among many other things.
When stuff like the transfer pak is thrown into the mix it starts becoming more of a clusterfuck though, as I mentioned already with the CPU core style problem.

It's alright. It works fine for most of the 1st party games on the 3ds. The problem with this emulator is the fact that it's mandatory to have decrypted games and the mii and 3ds data bullshit that keeps you from playing alot of games that support it.
>>
so to fix the problem you have to use ubershaders?
>>
>>385847152
Nah it's definitely a lack of games. People didn't say PS3 has no games so much for so long for no reason.

Look at SNES, PS1, PS2, PSP each has hundreds of excellent games that if not for emulation you could only play on those platforms. PS3/360 have maybe a dozen at best at this point and that number is dwindling as the more we see these last-gen re-releases like Dragon's Dogma, Bayo, Valkyria Chronicles, Vanquish, ect. When PSP emulation finally became a thing you had this bevy of games just ready to roll. PS3 emulation rolls around, it's like I guess I could play Demon's Souls again, it has been a few years. What else was on this console? Oh right, mostly stuff I can already play on PC/PS4.

It just doesn't hype me up the way other emulators have because the selection is so small.
>>
>>385801858
I'd rather trade good textures for good fps. Also the 3D models are still a turd.
>>
>>385848521
Yes, it's a new option on recent development builds.
When you use it, there's like 30-second shader compile time before the game boots, after that there's a lot less stutter.
I just gave Sonic Colours a quick go and there were extremely little stutter, just very rare split-second stutter in expected areas, or very minimal stutter right after the loading screen goes away. It's a huge improvement.
>>
>>385818390

Anybody get the feeling that the CEMU devs are intentionally nerfing BOTW so they can continue raking in 25k per month on patreon for longer? once the emulator is perfected they no longer need funding so why wouldnt they stretch out the funding by intentionally limiting the most played game on it and drip feeding updates per month to keep the money flowing?

I find it strange that BOTW is locked to 20fps without cemuhook on almost every system, regardless of hardware and only even hits 30 locked for people with processors with huge clockspeeds and large amounts of ram.

And then in comparison every other game i tested, including pic related, works pretty much perfectly 60fps locked with a proper shader cache.

The problem with the cemu version isnt even just the raw lack of fps. Its the uneven frame pacing and stuttering that fucks with the gameplay itself. Shader caches become useless if you have a NVIDIA GPU building your own makes it even worse in game.

So I just gave Metroid Prime a spin, and whilst it was overall very smooth, there were still too issues.

Once in a while there was the occasional delay, which seemed like it was loading something new like a bit of the environment or even audio.
And when there was a lot going on screen, like explosion effects as Ridley busts through the ceiling, the FPS could drop pretty harshly.

It could just be inoptimal config though.

>running Exclusive Ubershaders
There's your problem, nigger. Hybrid works just as well and it doesn't tank performance. Your CPU+GPU simply isn't good enough for exclusive ubershaders.

Either drop the resolution down to native or use hybrid shaders.
>>Audio Backend Cubeb
>Audio stretching enabled, 80ms buffer
Assuming you're playing the Wii version, you don't need this crap because it only ads problems. Disable everything that's not specified in the Metroid Prime Wiki. If you're playing the gamecube version you should kill yourself.
>>
>>385851516
I'm emulating the GameCube on my i7-3740qm laptop with a GTX 670 eGPU, no problems. You should be fine.
>>
>>385851345
Speaking of, how did you get hybrid ubershaders enabled or should I just google more? I have Dolphin v5.01 developer edition.
>>
>>385851516
yeah, gamecube and ps2 will be ez
>>
>>385851702
Alright. You can easily emulate gamecube and Wii games.
>>
>>385851483
Maybe you can help me figure this out then because I'm absolutely stumped
I want to use my PS4 controller to play Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission on No$GBA
So I connect the controller via micro usb to one of the ports and fire up DS4Windows. I've already got the 360 driver so there's no issue there. I select the location and then click install but it fails. Every time it fails. I've googled/youtube solutions but nothing works.
>>
>>385851860
Pretty much what I was expecting, need to lower res, and Exclusive isn't worth using.
I'll try Xaudio without stretching, 2x Native and Hybrid to see what the Prime intro is like.

Also I don't have the Wii version but why would I want to play that, doesn't it have mandatory waggle?
>>
>>385851837
I understand, it's just unfortunate
>>
>>385802002
Shill.
>>
>>385819550
Nice nipple though.
>>
>>385851983
>how did you get hybrid ubershaders enabled
First make sure you're using the latest dolphin dev build. Go to Dolphin website, click on downloads and scroll down until you see "dev builds". Just download the latest version, it should be something like 5.0.4986 or whatever. Don't download the regular stable 5.0 version.

After that, assuming you have actual game ISOs, go to graphics settings, under api choose drd11 (works the best for most games) and there should also be an ubershader dropdown menu on the same tab. Choose "hybrid" or exclusive if you have a high-end PC.
>>
>>385851206
theres been more activity on cxbx and xenia this year but generally most people aren't interested in developing for it. it's stuck between a rock and a hard place, nothings working because no one wants to develop for it, and no one wants to develop for it because nothing's working.
>>
>>385852345
Can you mod iso files?
Would that version work with a non-iso modded file?

Saturn emulation works just fine.

You can play it right now.
>>
>>385850763
Xbox emulation is developing nicely, XQemu has decent compatibly and is quite accurate, but it's horribly slow.
360 emulation was going pretty nicely, but has slowed down to a halt in the past 6 months.
>>
>>385852068
>need to lower res
No need for that if you're using Hybrid shaders. Exclusive tanks performance unless you have a 5GHz 7700k and a high end GPU.
>why would I want to play that, doesn't it have mandatory waggle?
Superior controls and there's no waggle. It also has native 16:9 which means no stretched HUD. It also looks better (higher res textures, better lighting etc.). It's simply superior.
You probably don't have a wiimote and nunchuk, though which is why you're playing the clunky gamecube version. Sad!

>>
>>385852036
Just assuming you have created a profile in ds4 for your controller (named mine Rameses cause gold) you make sure you are on the seected profile, sync your controller to your computer via bluetooth if possible, go to No$GBA options, control setup, enable joystick, and then just play till all buttons are mapped.
>>
>>385852457
>Can you mod iso files?
I don't know what you mean by that. Just go to emuparadise and download gamecube/wii games. They're all in ISO format.
>>
>>385852641
It's better at emulation than any ryzen CPU out there.
>>
>>385852345
Got it, found it. But do I need to keep previous dolphin build to run the dev or can I get uninstall that one?
>>
>>385852630
I have a Wii Motion Plus controller and nunchuk, plus a Classic Controller Pro.
But I don't have the Wii version.
>>
What are the must-play games for the GameCube and Wii? I've never owned either and figure that now is as good a time as any to give them a shot.
>>
>>385852871
Sorry, I'm still new to this
What I mean is, a lot of the games you download are iso files right?
And for a lot of those games there are sometimes mods and patches
So what I want to know is if you want to play a modded/patched version of the game, can you do that with the iso file or do you have to search for a zip that has all the contents?
>>
>>385852960
try running saturn on mednafen and rpcs3 then get back to me
>>
>>385853001
Before doing anything, backup your save files (dolphin, tools, export wii saves). If you're playing gamecube games, you need to find the savefiles manually (my documents, dolphin, they're in there somewhere, use google).
>do I need to keep previous dolphin build to run the dev
No. Dev builds are just updated regular 5.0 builds with new features, fixes etc.
>>
>>385828764

you made me smile, thank you ^_^
>>
>>385852741
>Just assuming you have created a profile in ds4 for your controller
Wait, so I have to create a profile in DS4 for my controller before I can install it?
Is that what I've been doing wrong? Nobody said anything about having to do that
>>
>>385850365
Dolphin wasnt open source for many years. Cry more.
>>
>>385853012
>But I don't have the Wii version.
Emuparadise.com and follow the instructions. There's mega.com links and everything else you need to extract ISOs.
I get 7-10Mbps when downloading ISOs from emuparadise.
Finish your gamecube version of metroid prime since you're probably already half way through or something, but there's no reason not to play the wii version of Metroid Prime 2. Metroid Prime 3 is also a good game despite all the memes.
>>
>>385853097
Almost all games on emuparadise are already fully patches. Just follow the instructions, it's easy as fuck.
>>385853179
Those won't be fully playable for years so it doesn't really matter. Only dolphin, PS2 and gamecube emulation is relevant.

It's more like I can't be bothered to get the Wii version at this point, I've beaten Prime once before and never played 2 or 3, but definitely will soon now that Dolphin's fixed shader stutter.

Seriously those devs are fucking amazing.
>>
>Hahahaha eat shit consoles

>>
>>385853396
And it went through a major shit went it went open source. There was a total rewrite where the code was cleaned up and it became much more accurate and faster, you couldn't emulate Wii before it went open source, they ditched the plugin shit, tons of new features were added like custom texture support, new and better video backends were added. Dolphin going open source was the absolute best thing that happened to it.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Super Mario Sunshine
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
No More Heroes
No More Heroes 2
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Pikmin
Pikmin 2
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (idk if that was a multiplat tho)
Luigi's Mansion
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
-better with friends break-
Mario Party 5, 6, 7, or 8 they're all good
Kirby Air Ride
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Mario Kart Double Dash
Mario Kart Wii
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

There's also some other great multiplats from that era on GameCube that I'd recommend, a lot of the shitty 3D platformer movie tie in games/licensed IP games are actually fun enough to give a whirl, especially for free. To name a few of the ones I played back then:

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie
Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom
Rocket Power Beach Bandits
Shrek 2
Tak 2: the Staff of Dreams
>>
>>385853681
Yup, ubershaders are a huge thing. Gamecube and Wii emulation is basically perfect now, especially if you have a good PC. Today I played mario galaxy 1 and 2 and Metroid Prime 1 and 3, they all run like a dream with hybrid shaders. Absolutely no stutters anymore (7700k 4.9GHz, 16gb 3600MHz RAM, GTX 980).
>>385853769

Patience is rewarded. Sure you could have bought a Gamecube in 2001. But if you had waited until today, you could be playing dozens of consoles on your PC. Your dinky little Gamecube can only play Gamecube games at Gamecube resolution.

I'm still noticing a little stutter with my 4960k and 770 GTX, 8gb ram (forget the speed), but it's two-three year old hardware now.
I think the stutter I'm getting is probably not attributable to shaders at all, but more loading from disk.
I'm also running from compressed ISO from a 7200rpm HDD, instead of from my SSD. Do you think either of those could impact performance?

I'm also running from an HDD and it's only 5400RPM (shitty wd green). Works great as I said, so I don't think it's that. Access speed doesn't really matter for Dolphin since even a 5400rpm desktop HDD is fatser than Wii/Gamecube dvds.
It could be RAM speed. I have really fast ddr4 ram, you probably have regular 1333/1600MHz ddr3 RAM. Could be that, but I also doubt it.
>>
>>385853236
I had problems till I made the profile, even boosted my rumble and got green color that way, but it connects better to emulators. Also in settings make the ds4 hide, there it will not try to be ps4 but fully be just a joystick/gamepad then.

Two out of dozens.
i3 is pointless for anything else since you can get a 4 core ryzen for about the same price.
>>
>>385854738
Yup, it's DDR3 1333mhz here, which is not too shabby but not DDR4 or anything. My mobo doesn't support DDR4.
Either way, doubt that's the problem I'm having.

It works, but it all depends on your hardware. DX11 is generally more stable, but vulkan performs better in certain titles.

It's broken right now. This will change in the future and by then we'll have much better CPUs than Ryzen or babbylake i3s. I upgrade my CPU every 1-2 years and I'll upgrade from my 7700k to a 6 core 8700k when it comes out.
