while I enjoy the setting, I don't really like the nonhuman races. blue furry kobolds are not very appealing and the others are just non-Europeans with slightly altered features: Africans with feathers and Asians with gills.
Would be more interesting if humans just had African / Asian-inspired subraces and nonhumans had more creative design.

WM had still a fuckload of samey encounters tho. Boy I sure liked fighting those laufhgklsjfs, not-illithids, ogres and oozes with zero variation. Cragholdt Buffs took the cake. It's really a big problem with PoE, assload of dull encounters that keep repeating until you get to a good one, made worse by getting zero reward for them. Having a game full of nothing but combat with zero exp for said combat was truly a masterstroke.

In Pillars, you can only earn a limited amount of experience from fighting enemies, yet the game still has wayyyy more random packs of enemies than it needs

It's incredibly unsatisfying to fight a bunch of trolls or whatever for zero reward when you are trying to finish a quest so you can get actual XP.

I get they wanted to cut down on grinding or whatever but sawyer's obsession with "balance" in an isometric RPG made the game less fun than it could have been. Oh, and guess what the classes aren't even balanced, wizards and priests are still super strong while other classes are mediocre to bad (what even is the point of rangers when you can give a chanter a gun)
