To be fair it's incredibly easy to nitpick at the game. All you have to do is constantly point out how little sense the map design makes (like he did all through FM) and you'd never run out of material. Then there's the series of events shown by the plot and how apparently nonsensical they can be (mostly with the military behaviour) and you're done.

Going from HL1 to 2 quickly you realize that most of the "familiarity" that HL2 throws at you is completely fluff.

You don't really meet all the people, with the exception of Kleiner, who apparently know and love you to fucking death in HL2 in the first game. And it really is pretty strange how everyone seems to know you despite not really doing anything besides pushing a cart into a test chamber, killing a bunch of army guys, and getting off a train.
