I think this is the biggest problem in the game for me. You are pretty much forced to except this duck right out the gate with no real explanation why. An example would be how the city of Boston is around 2 square kilometres instead of there being any attempt to make it seem like a real city. You can run from Sanctuary to Boston in under 1 ingame day which raises the question of why people had cars at all. In addition to all of these, the roads in Fallout 3 and 4 are tiny as fuck to realistically accommodate the cars anyway. The sum of all of these shit makes the world feel more like a theme park rather than an actual world people live in.

TES had better world building, even Skyrim.

All of the 3D Fallout games and even TES games would benefit from an overall biggert size. People who have no time for shit would use fast travel anyway while those who enjoy a more believable world would have the chance for it, provided the devs actually makes good use of the space. A bigger world size would do no good if different settlements still consist of 10 houses and are a mere 500m apart.
