Seriously, forward dashing to their backside and slapping their ass works every fucking time. It breaks the game because of the game's fundamental enemy design philosophy of frontloaded attacks. Even if they have an attack that hits the back it will almost certainly do way less damage than their frontal combo attack and can be quickly healed through.

Depends. In more conventional action games the enemies are generally way faster to react to your movements. In any case in Bloodborne it's an especially effective tactic, frankly much more reliable than trying to abuse i-frames.
