I'm thinking of joining a video game club in college. Are they full of over-enthusiastic autismos or is it just normal people?
>>
>>385749339
The fact that you're even considering joining a video game club is proof that you're a normalfag and don't belong here.
>>
>>385749892
t. someone who has never been in a video game club

They're always full of autistic weirdos. The one at my university was nothing but smash bros fans and that one furry kid that was wayy too into Sonic the Hedgehog

Went to one meeting and noped out of there and never came back
>>
Join a frat you fucking virgin.
>>
>>385749339
If you like autists and neckbeards then the video game club is for you. Consider also joining the anime club if those types of autists appeal to you.
>>
>>385750010
this at all three colleges I went to
sometimes they're labeled "game development club" but it's just arguing over unity while playing corruption of champions together
>>
>>385749339
I never met a normal person that attended any college club
>>
>>385749339
Don't, it's autism the club.
>>
It's either all autismos or a bunch of betas jockeying for the attention of the one girl who joined the club.
>>
>>385749339
They are usually horrible. Surprisingly boardgame clubs have became so mainstream that they're full of normal (or at least mostly normal) people, but video game clubs tend to attract wrong sorts of people. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that everyone's necessarily autistic there, but even one or two shitters are usually enough to ruin everything and make club meetings uncomfortable to attend.
>>
Worth going to one meet up or whatever if you enjoy the one or two girls that happen to be there squirm as stinky autismos try to hit on them. A great life lesson desu.
>>
Take my word and don't go anywhere NEAR that autismo den.
I made the mistake of joining freshman year, an awful experience.
Most of the time everyone's either playing a trading card game, Pokemon or Smash.

I don't even watch anime
>>
Don't do it. This is the one time in your life where you're surrounded by thousands of people the same age as you and a mostly open schedule. if you join a video game club you'll just be hanging out with the same old autists doing the same old shit. Expand your fuckin horizons.
>>
>>385749339
Why don't you attend a couple meetings to see what its like, and just stop going if you don't like it?
>>
everyone everywhere is terrible except for like 10 people. you gotta find em somehow
>>
Dont know about college but I worked voluntarily at the student pub at university, got lots of friends and connections from that. Probably nothing like that in US since drinking age is 21 though, but I dont know.

Why is it so? Are these kind of autists the first to think joining this kind of clubs is a good idea so they repulse the less autistic ones?

//Thread
>>
>>385750461
They are generally mixed with normalfags and autists. Most have entry level tastes, but there may be a few that discuss decent anime/manga.
>>
>>385750408
>one or two shitters are usually enough to ruin everything and make club meetings uncomfortable to attend
This. I would have enjoyed my universitys vidya club otherwise, but there was this one loud and overexcited autist that made everything awkward. It didn't take long to reach the decision that it was just better to forget about the club rather than suffer being around that idiot.
>>
Why the fuck would anyone join a club? Time is better spent studying or working a job
>>
Go ahead. If it's a community college then stay the fuck away. Full on autismos

Probably they are looking for people with similar interests and don't know where to look, but they turn other people away as a result of their social awkwardness. My main problem with the people I've seen at anime or video game clubs is that they are elitists in the extreme, (and awkward as all hell to be around).

you will be surrounded by normies who are just looking for someone to fuck
no one actually cares about hobbies. if they do, they would be on the internet

My college's 'gamer club' was pretty much all table tops instead of video games. There was a once a year smash tournament, but it was just pen and paper stuff aside from that. Oh, and they were mostly pretty autistic. Including myself, of course. I'm not trying to fool anyone.

Hello Chad.
>>
I was part of the videogame society at my university. Don't let the fags in this thread deter you, it was pretty fun. However:

>Society was formed during my first year of university.
>Was full of top-tier bros and, unbelievably, some chill girls. No drama kings or queens.
>Enter the autismos.
>Originally from another university society that sometimes ran videogame nights, along with anime nights, comic nights, basically everything vaguely nerdy.
>Saw our society as muscling in on their 'thing'.
>Constantly trying to invade and take over so they can turn it into autism society 2.0
>Founders were going into their last year or going on placements so have no time to organise socials and shit.
>Eventually some committee places opened up that nobody but the autismos had time to fill.
>Slowly the society becomes infested with their kin.
>Fags have to make everything about gender identity, sexual orientation, and politics.
>Everything that was fun about the society slowly disappears.
>Soon the committee is completely saturated with these faggots.
>The small number of us that were left had to admit defeat to these people.

Don't give them an inch OP.

>>
>>385751648
This. Mine just played Yugioh all day.

My uni's club was fairly decent, we had events once a month where we had competitions (PC and Console, both with LAN) or could just chill and play vidya. Kinda miss it desu.

There are different kinds of fraternities, not all of them are the social "Animal House" type.

Some fraternities are more about academics, public service, or some other special interest. It's not too different from regular clubs, you set up and hold events, hang out, do whatever. There tends to be more pomp and circumstance than a club, but that's about it.
>>
>visit one of these clubs
>its ALL people playing LoL every second of the day even though they visibly hate the game
>some don't even go to this school

>no items, fox only, final destination on steroids

Me and a bud used to host some video games in the lounge at our college and it was chill. We'd play Wii, N64, GCN, Wii U games. You'd get the usual nerds but there were also some dudebros that would join in and have a good time. It was an awesome thing to experience.......... Then an autist decided to join in... Man, he practically ruined things, getting and about everything especially in Smash.

It was a good run and lasted 2 semesters. But then my friend quit college and I didnt want to do it anymore... Then what's this? Someone else is hosting vidya stuff?

It was literally the same fucking autist who would always get mad. I tried playing with him and his friends once and they disconnected my controller out of anger. Never again did I play with em. Nobody did. It was just him and his 2-3 friends hogging the lounge and screeching autistic shit while playing ONLY Smash

I fucking miss hosting with my friend. Fuck those autists

Could be a mix of the two. I joined the video game society at uni and, even as a self-confessed nerd and loser and all that shit, Jesus fucking Christ on a dicking bike it was the most depressing experience of my life. I spent ten minutes there and thought "No, actually, I'm good. I'm not like these people. I don't need to be like them, and I don't want to be like them." I mean sure there might have been some normies in there, but I highly doubt it.

>gif very fucking related
>>
>>385750936
From my experience they aren't elitist they are just autistic, the people here are a thousand times more elitist. Playing LoL and watching Jojo isn't elitism.

>>385749339

Akagi got me to join the mahjong club instead. By my senior year, I was learning Mandarin just to play with the FOB Chinese.
>>
>>385753114
Majong club is genuinely fun.
>>
In my experience the anime club usually has better taste in vidya than the game club. The game club was all black FGC dudes
>>
>>385749339
I wish I joined one of the engineering related clubs like the team that worked on miniature racing cars, or the soccer robot team.
There was a video game club never really bothered, we already had a venue for engineering students with TVs. There was always a group Laning it up on their laptops with randoms joining in or someone bringing in their Wii/360/PS3 for split screen multiplayer.
>>
>>385751868
Does anyone have that one comic about the hobbies? where the green one fucks up and invites people, so the rules change and shit
>>
>>385752935
This. Went to the anime club for free food and I didn't even fit in with the autists. There were genuine retarded weeaboos there and the worst thing is that they just discussed entry level shows like AoT and wore naruto headbands. Got the fuck out.
>>
>>385749339

>Are they full of over-enthusiastic autismos or is it just normal people?

Yes. I didn't join one, but I played the Japanese version of Brawl before it came stateside with them. It was filled with ugly degenerates. I saw them begging for money one time on campus. It was to fund their trip to Japan. They set up a table and everything, literally asking people to donate cash so they can travel there.
>>
>>385749339
hope you enjoy ASSFAGGOTS
>>
Might as well give it a try. Even if it's mostly dweebs, there could be one cool person there worth befriending.

My #1 social advice for anyone starting college is to focus on making friends over meeting girls. I met my ex early during college, and it was much later when we broke up -- by then it was more difficult to make friends than it would have been early on.
>>
>>385752780
>they disconnected my controller out of anger.

The former, I went to smaller 2 year technical school there was a break room where all of the neckboards hung out. Smelled like total shit and everyone of them looked like permavirgin neckbeards or fedora wearers. I imagine a university would be just as bad if not worse, all the normal people are in frats.
>>
Heart to heart anon just don't. Play video games at dorm. It will be a bunch of losers avoiding studying and really really cringe people with huge bias. Girls that exist their are stank it's not normal for them to be their huge red flag.
You probably play more video games, of different kinds, are better than them in it, and look forward to future games more than them. Some people it seems only smash, they still have console wars, and openly talk about furry yaoi.
It's not even about becoming a chad because frat clubs and frat activity is as bad as video game clubs but on the opposite spectrum. As bill burr said fuck groups.
Just study it ain't worth it
>>
>>385754586

Probably some sport, if you're a sport person. Of course unlikable tryhards cam exist in these clubs as well, but it's less likely there.

>>
>>385755096
what's the difference online autist with irl autist anyway
>>
>>385752754
I feel the same, but you can make an effort and find a balance. It kinda works for me, have relatively good number of friends to talk about normalfag stuff and come here to talk things I don't discuss with them.
>>
Why don't you people join the Freemasons or the Shriners? They're generally semi-autistic and friendly people.
>>
>>385755253
Real life autists are worse. With online autists you can focus on the game and easily avoid them if they don't. And if they're the ugly kind or the ones with bad hygene you don't have to suffer that either.
>>
>>385755170

frats get such a bad rep, yet all of the frat guys that i knew that weren't HATED by everyone were cool dudes that knew a LOT of girls and always threw great parties... if you want a lot of friends and to go to a lot of parties, especially as a freshman, a frat or sorority is definitely the way to go. you will meet people with similar interests through classes or other friends, NOT through "clubs," although intermural sports are an excellent way to meet people. join innertube water polo or pick up tennis or something...

>I agree, thinking it'll be fun

>Even worse, this was a school that specialised in dealing with students with dyslexia, autism, aspergers and other mental issues

First day

>Had a PS3 setup with Street Fighter IV, and the kids did nothing but mash buttons and scream
>Kids stamping on the DDR mats, missing every arrow
>One kid breaks D pad on Genesis controller because he thinks you have to twist it in order to move
>Another kid yanks on an N64 controller so hard the system falls to the floor
>I'm having a nervous breakdown 4 minutes into the club
>Teacher had no choice but to send everyone to detention apart from me
>Kids doing sperg cries, other complaining how they "didn't do anything wrong"

Second - Sixth day

>Didn't bring consoles in
>Spergs just played Minecraft on the lab computers, shouting and screeching every so often
>I browse /v/ on my phone in the corner whilst teacher does his emails

Seventh day

>A year 11 finally joins after he complained about being bullied in cricket club
>The club had less people, since some of the kids got suspended over some incident with a pen and some girl's eye
>Decided I could bring in my GameCube and play Melee
>The guy was shy, but he turned out to be pretty good
>We played FFA with me, him and two other kids who weren't that loud or weird like the suspended ones
>Club felt lively and happy for once

No happy ending though. To be continued.

Eight day

>With only 4 of us, I felt safe bringing my Dreamcast and Power Stone to school
>Got to know the other year 11 better, played TF2 with him on Steam
>Everything was going great
>"Oh sorry to say this anon, but the suspended students are coming back"
>ohfuck,jpg
>Teacher says that if I bring in a console, I have to let others play.
>Start playing Power Stone with the others from before just so we can have decent matches before spergs run through
>Before we could start the match, it was too late
>They all burst in with their Minecraft and Family Guy t shirts, since it's mufty day. (Google it)
>"IT'S OUR TURN YOU NOOOOOBS"
>We're still mid match, pretending they aren't there
>One of them has the audacity to runup to the CRT and knock over
>I flipped my shit
>Tell these stupid ass kids to go play Minecraft or something
>"NO NOT UNLESS WE FUCK YOUR MOM"
>Little spergs start laughing like they heard the funniest shit ever
>Teacher at the front of the room, depressed, gets out a flask and starts drinking from it
>They all start shouting random YouTube E celeb references and Vine "jokes" out loud for no reason
>Teacher gives up and slams fire alarm, telling everyone to get the fuck out
>School evacuated, principal trying to find out who pressed the alarm
>I decided to point at the kid who knocked over the CRT screen, also same kid who broke the Genesis/MegaDrive controller
>Principal believed me due to the kid's previous shit
>Wink at teacher
>He winks back
>Both agree to never do a video game club ever again
>Finish my GCSEs and never see the school ever again

A wild ride it sure was.

My school has an esports club that focuses almost exclusively on LoL and Overwatch with some fighting games sprinkled in. There are some other vidya related clubs but they are very niche. One is a Smash club, but I fucking hate Smash and the other is just a DOTA 2 club. I don't play DOTA 2.

Joined the esports club last fall and had fun for a little while because I usually played LoL or Overwatch for my multiplayer fix but whenever they did inhouse lobbies/games it was some of the most boring shit ever. One team would be stacked with all the best/most veteran players and stomp the everliving shit out of the newbies and just trash talk the entire time. They also ran a LoL tournament that would usually last about half the semester but that was an absolute shit show. The teams were "chosen at random" but the same people that won the last two years always seem to end up on the same teams. The club gets a lot of free merch from Riot and Blizzard for said tournaments so I'm pretty sure it's all a scam. They said they've been hurting for members for a while but I can see why. After the fall semester I just noped out of there and just stuck with playing games with my long distance friends like I had been doing.

There was also a severe problem with the few girls in the club. All of them were being blatantly boosted by their bf's/other male members of the club. In fact some nights would be solely dedicated to just rotating the girls' accounts around the room and playing ranked matches of LoL or Overwatch to see how high they could get the account. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but the girls would turn around and shit talk anyone lower rank than they were. There was one chick that didn't get boosted and fucking DESPISED that shit and left after a few weeks.

TL;DR - Gaming clubs can be really hit or miss but honestly stick to tabletop games for real social connections. Any girls you see are ticking timebombs about 99% of the time.

my uni has a smash club and it has a shitload of people. it's mostly just melee but i always bring in project m whenever i go. everyone there is so goddamn good it's hard to want to keep going when there's no room for improvement for me, as i just get assblasted over and over. i mostly just play with my roommates instead who are pretty good but more around my skill level. most people are pretty normal there if not slightly condescending because "muh tryhard melee" attitude

You should try.

I spent my entire college experience shut in within my room, spurning most human contact except with the guy I liked to smoke cigarettes with.

I wouldn't recommend it, you should try to at least find some kind of core group to hang out with. I would strongly recommend against using video games or anime as a basis though. You'll meet plenty f dudes that like video games and anime naturally over the course of your experience, those clubs specifically are just the containment zone for autists.

Expanding on what this guy said >>385750113, late in my senior year, I made friends with a guy from a frat, and let me tell you; while every frat is going to have some massive cunts, most of the people in them are chill. And all of them take the concept of brotherhood pretty seriously; if there is anything important in life you want up to and including having sex, there will invariably be someone in your frat who will set you up.
