>that guy who does all of the side content and grinds to level 99 before beating the game
Why do you do this? The optional stuff will still be there later. Why trivialize the final boss and put off the ending?
>>
>>385738649
To reach the apex of power within the confines of the digital prison of an rpg is a pleasure only few men can grasp, or even have a taste of, let alone understand.
>>
>>385738649

The game doesn't let you go back to the world after beating the final boss and the way the game ends invites you to just "close the book" after it. The game isn't hard in the first place, so it doesn't matter if you're lv 99 anyway
>>
>>385738649
If you're talking specifically about FF7, once you beat the game you can only resume from your last save.
>>
In FFVII, Sephiroth actually becomes stronger the more characters you have at level 99.

most of the game is a cakewalk, but ruby and emerald can still fuck you up no matter what level you're at or what strategy you're using.

Wrong. Both are cakewalks with ATB and or materia combination abuse.

This always seems kind of retarded to me. There's some big world ending threat and it can be stomped by a random monster that's just chilling around in a dungeon.
>>
>>385738649
>Pierre
>>
>>385740010

Usually the final boss has a grand ambition, while the optional bosses are 'forces of nature' or more interested in being left alone.

Because I have never cared about story in any video game.

When all that beating a game does is end it, then why bother when you can go off and do other things to continue playing.
>>
>>385740836

for...what purpose??
>>
>>385740810
Pretty much this. The victory lap in EarthBound is a real nice way to send off a game.
>>
>>385740010
That's actually the part of the charm I liked about Final Fantasy 7.

The entire plot of the story was 100% irrelevant to the outcome of the world, and the progress of their humanity.

It all came down to the planet's lifestream.

Mako energy, materia, weapons, that's all that mattered.

If Meteor did happen like Sephiroth wanted to, the world would defend itself. It would send weapons to defend it (Just like it already did if Cloud didn't intervene) , and the weapons would cleanse the world, and rebuild it.

I would probably kill myself first.

Is VII or VI the most casual FF ever? They are both ridiculously easy; VI doesn't even have a challenging side-boss. Literally the hardest fight is that fucking thing you fight right before landing on the Floating Continent.

I did this with Gravity Rush 2, and I ended up by chance doing the side quest where you take the old man around town and Kat sings last, which gave a nice bittersweet feel and made the ending even better.

You're wrong though. WEAPON wasn't intelligent enough to recognize Sephirith as the issue, they just roamed around and attacked large enough reactors. His entire plan was to trick Planet into healing itself, and then to steal the Lifeforce it tried to use by sticking himself in the wound. He would then drain the Planet dry with it never realizing what was wrong, gaining godlike powers. If you hadn't stopped him, the Planet was absolutely fucked.

2452814 exp / 62p per battle = 39562 battles

39562 battles * avg. of 120s per battle, counting loading times and times until next encounter = 4747440 secs

Reminds me of when I played through Borderlands 2. I spent extra money to buy all the million goddamn DLC packs. During the campaign, whenever I'd see a DLC area, I kept saying to myself, "I'll do that at the end of the game." By the end of the campaign, I had reached level 30, and because everything is capped at level 30, it was pointless to play any of the DLC. I wouldn't have fought any tougher monsters or gotten better weapons. I would have had to start NG+ and play through the whole campaign again to properly play the DLC.
It really pissed me off. Why couldn't they just have a higher level cap so I could have the DLC areas scale to my level?
>>

Why would anyone waste such a long time of their lives doing it just to prove a point? Everyone knows it can be done, and everyone except these two also know it really shouldn't be done.

>>
>>385754173
Running "10000" miles would mean you got yourself into great shape just to do it.

Spending all that time grinding in an MMO would mean you got great gear from it, probably got pretty good at the game, and gained some recognition from the people on your server.

Grinding to level 99 in the first reactor of FF7 just means you spent +500 hours doing something you don't enjoy doing just to prove a retarded point. There was no skill involved. You learned nothing. You gained nothing.

>>
>>385738649
Because completing the final boss usually kills my interest in the game. I know that it really shouldn't matter, but once the main story is done, games just usually feel "finished" and it's hard to find any motivation to complete any sidequest and other stuff, it feels like it doesn't matter anymore. Obviously, games with actual postgame content are exempt from this.
>>
>>385754782
Yeah I bet literally sitting there for hundreds of hours, drool dripping out from the corner of your mouth as you stare into nothingness, your finger rhythmically tapping circle, is a fuckton of fun.
>>
>>385740010
It's game design. If you make your final boss into some extreme near insurmountable challenge, then you will alienate or piss off people who are playing the game casually.

With optional bosses you can make them as ball bustingly bullshit as you want. For lore purposes, you can just make them some kind of some kind of ancient creature o yore.
The final boss of an RPG doesn't have to literally be the strongest thing to ever exist.
