Longswords and greatswords are the most effective and versatile weapons in any souls game, just as a byproduct of their speed, range, and moveset. When a weapon is both a longsword and a greatsword at the same time, people are going to use it.

Not at all gay. I was a bit let down when I was given what would be my favorite weapon from the very start. That was one of my gripes about Bloodborne. Didn't feel like there was much reason to ever switch out your starter weapon / pistol.

Bloodborne is designed for beginner players who never played Dark Souls. Ludwigs is a FANTASTIC weapon for a first playthrough. It strikes in all six degrees, it has reach, it's strong and it can knock shit down. It's completely obvious that inexperienced players would gravitate to it.

They'll pick up the other weapons later.

What I did was cruel fate>raise vit to 30>put the rest of the points into arcane until you hit 99. Start with the saw cleaver or spear, get the fire gem guarded by the brain sucker below the workshop in the alleys and keep going from there. Use hunter tools to fight bosses.
