They do in the sense that they are a representation of one person's opinion of the quality of a game. Now in the grand scheme of things one person's opinion doesn't mean shit, but if someone is a trusted reviewer or a reviewer that you personally line up with or think highly of the opinion of, which in today's industry of modern game reviews probably is very small if anyone at all, that can hold some value. At the very least you can typically get merit out of a review if the reviewer in question is consistent and you understand their beliefs and are capable of pulling out what matters to you.

The problem is that Jim Sterling is not fucking consistent at all and his reviews read more like how he was feeling that day than how good the game he played was. He overlook the problems in games he adores but holds the problems up in games he hates and heralds them as game ruining flaws even if they are the same problems, but what determines if he likes a game or hates a game is a complete bumblefuck mystery. Other times he uses his review scores to be as contrarian or as extreme as possible. Deadly Premonition is a 10/10 because I like it and other people hate it so fuck you if you can't get over the game's glaringly objective actual gameplay ruining flaws the game is perfect because I thought it was silly. Or giving Yooka-Laylee a 2/10 just to be extreme, I don't care how much you dislike that game or that style of game come off it mate, that's just an absolutely ridiculous score that would only make sense if the game did not function. As a reviewer Jim Sterling is worthless. There's no consistency or merit to be pulled out of what he says. It's like his reviews are performance pieces intended to be read as a skit rather than a review. It's impossible to take him seriously, but then that was apparent as he was one of the handful of undiscerning dullards who thinks DmC is a great game and a good entry in the series because he lacks mechanical and design insight.
