Not all devs are that evil though. If a dev asks you politely to hide for a while some secrets and not make them public, you should at least have the heart to wait a bit before dumping all infos.
Sometimes dataminers act like assholes, I don't like that. It's because of that attitude that we don't get secrets anymore. Devs are forced to do overly complex crap to hide secrets, like Rockstar did in most GTA games. And most devs just don't bother anymore.

It's a kind of long cringe of a story, but here goes.

Story starts with binding of issac rebirth, The game has a secret character "The lost" and hes really bad and shitty and unfun, and theres no reason to ever want to unlock or play him, literally ever. Hes one of the most hated things added to the game in a very long time, and not only that but hes really hard to unlock, you need to do four very specific things in a row, and the only way you can find out what those things are is to get a specific item, then die a lot of times. It's a rogue like so when you die you need to get the item again. So the community is trying piecing this together and they are about an hour from figuring it out, and the dataminers come in and just post up the final solution and how to get the character. People are kinda salty, but edward the dev is SO FUCKING SALTY ITS UNREAL. He literally goes on a twitter tirade, and is like "NEXT TIME ILL MAKE IT SO DATAMINERS CANT FUCKING FIND IT BECAUSE ITLL JUST BE IMPOSSIBLE TO DO!!!."

So fastforward, the next DLC for rebirth, afterbirth comes out. The game is supposed to get 100 new items but theres like a shit ton of items nobody can find no matter what, and on twitter the devs are being super faggots about it and being like "WOW I CANT BELIEVE NOBODY FOUND THE SECRET YET XD" So, people are pretty sure the items just arn't in the game, and also theres a "Glitch" in the game where a specific counter stops at the exact hour that the dataminers found the secret character last time which halts your progress in the game, and the devs are like "lmao :^) u just havnt figured it out yet its totally possible and in the game for real!!" so the dataminers come and drop the games entire source code and are like "The items are not in the game, at all, they literally are not here" So the community is FUCKING PISSED and refunds start going through enmasse for false advertisements and the devs go completely fucking silent on twitter about it..

Speaking as as WoWfag Dataminers are bad. One of the reasons why I loved vanilla and TBC was because there was a sense of wonder to the world. Everything was new and was a challenge to try and figure out. Now things are dumped on WoWhead before they even enter the PTR. We had the dialog for the end of the last raid about 2 months before it shipped and that really disengaged my interest in seeing in play out live.

It's a damn shame that people are so greedy for these rewards that they ruin the experience for themselves and everyone who wants to do the thing legitimately. I used to be hyped to see rare mounts in a city because it meant something to to have found it. The worst part for me is that the majority of the community doesn't see this as a bad thing and encourages this behavior while whining for a "vanilla experience"

Toby just told people not to put entire sprite sheets on sites early on in the games release since it'd reveal a ton of shit about the story. It's not like there was anything of note to mine from Undertale. All it confirmed was that Hard Mode would never be finished and there was some shit with Gaster that was cut out.

So in a situation where there's an extremely buried, hard to trigger "that kid" easter egg that you don't want spoiled by dataminers, would the answer to this shit be to:
>exclude the content from the core game itself
>include an in-game trigger that provides you with a specialized code or something
>then with this randomized code, you can freely download the reward yourself?
>after the first gets to it, you could even rotate the selection of a few secret triggers/items/codes throughout the game so it seems like it's "that kid" modding shit or something

I would love to foster some kind of cool "that kid" stuff in the game I'm making.
I've thought of Undertale's devs including datamining content as art, but that seems like it takes away from the experience of immersion, Breaking a game does.
