>PS Vita finally has permanent CFW as of today.
>PS Vita finally has micro SD expandability that fits snugly into the game card slot.
>PS Vita can emulate everything that the PSP could but better.

Where were you when the PS Vita became the ultimate handheld device for retro + modern gaming needs?

>>385533770
In layman's terms, how soon can functioning Vita emulation be expected?
>>
>>385533770
And? The vast majority of people who own a vita owned a PSP. Those same people have already hacked and done everything they'd ever want to with their PSP years ago, so why would they care about the Vita emulating those things? The only thing that matters is the Vita emulating it's own games, since PS2 emulation will never technical reasons. A lot of the vita's best games are ports, or have been ported to the PS4, so why bother?

It's great news but a bit too late for it to matter. Maybe if we'd had this shit during the middle of it's lifetime...

Get a PS TV for new games. They're literally $20. Eventually we'll be able to dump the files necessary for newer games onto older firmwares, but not quite yet.

swap your vita motherboard for a 3.60 version one. check ebay, aliexpress, or your favorite mod shop. costs $30 and takes like a hour to do, no soldering needed just know how to use a simple screwdriver.
>>
>>385535912
No. CFW is still imperfect as long as it's actually held back by versions.
>>
>>385534460
What kind of homosexual didnt got a vita a couple of years ago?
>>
>>385536205
Turns out, not much. Bought a Vita because I was looking for a decent portable emulation machine, and to download some vita games too. It's been gathering dust.
>>
>Vita is still a $200 handheld

jesus christ
>>
>>385533770
Does it have solid native emulation support, though? Last I knew you had to go into PSP mode for much of it. I don't own a Vita and haven't looked into it for awhile, though.

I like the hardware of the Vita, but its library is too limited for me to want to buy one even if it's got great RetroArch core ports.
>>
I already bought most vita games i actually wanted to play for super cheap during sales. I'll wait for better cfw until i use it for emualtion, until then i always have my PSP or PC
>>
>Only 3.60.

two questions

can i use the microsd adapter if the vita is not hacked?

can i hack 3.61?
>>
>>385536346
it's $80 at pawnshops
>>
>>385536249
>>385536269
So, the only thing this add is the ability to buy cheap storage. might be cool, I bought my Vita used with 8gb, so I am always stuck with 2 games at a time.
>>
>>385536494
>buying a USED handheld

enjoy your scratched up screen and worn-in battery
>>
>>385536218
>>385536120
So the issue is trying to find a new vita I'm guessing?
>>
>>385536591
some I found at pawnshops are barely used. like some mom bought it for their son to play minecraft, played it for 1 hour, never turned on again.

I ended up buying like 3 of them, installing henkaku, then reselling them on ebay for double the price.
>>
I think I'm just going to wait for Vita emulation.
>>
>>385534212
Dual sticks, that's why you fucking idiot.
>>
>>385536372
I haven't tried too much of the native emulators outside of Retroarch stuff, but the SMS and GB/GBC emulators work well. I can't vouch for the SNES emulator. Retroarch cores are still being worked on, but I haven't had any trouble running SNES, PCE, SEGA CD, or NES games at all. Works pretty well across the board. Even CPS2 and other arcade emulators run well.
>>
>>385533770
Integer scaling results in a small image, there's no shader support in RA Vita for sharp-bilinear or Pixellate. This means if you want an image scaled to the Vita's vertical resolution or 4:3 you're stuck with uneven pixels.

No, it is not the ultimate handheld device for retro gaming.
>>
>>385536529
nop, you cannot use it without keikaku
>>
>PS Vita finally has permanent CFW as of today.
really?
>>
>>385536686
Nobody is working on that, so best of luck.
>>385536683
My local pawn shops don't have shit.
>scalping Vitas
The worst.
>>
I've waited this long, i might as well wait longer until the cfw is better.
Not like there's much to play anyway, most games are already dirt cheap on PSN or dirt cheap as remasters on PS4
>>
I always forget about CFW and update my PSVita when I decide to use it.
>>
Did the chinamen copy the adapter already? I already have henkaku installed. when I bought it, it has 8 gb, can't be bothered to buy at least 16 gb since its so expensive. but if this lets me expand the memory to at least 64gb, then at least I can play something else on my vita other than Disgaea 3 and 4
>>
>>385536959
Yes. But that's literally all it is.

Currently all it does is save you a minute of running an exploit any time you power on your vita.
>>
>>385537263
the main highlight is that it supports SD2Vita cartridge so no more buying expensive proprietary memory cards.
>>
still no games
>>
>>385537263
why would you shutdown your hacked vita anyway? you can just turn off the screen. I mean it just sips very very very very little power when the screen is off
>>
>>385537207
Yes; it's worth trying.
>>
>>385533770
>PS Vita can emulate everything that the PSP could
Which translates to "emulates the same shit, no point in purchasing it if you can use the PSP".
I don't care about the "better" since the psp can already emulate things smoothly.
I want a portable ps2 emulator, otherwise it can just fuck itself.

PSP can't run most SNES games at full speed or without slowdown

Although injecting SNES roms to the new 3DS is the best way to play SNES on the go.

>TFW you have a useless game you didn't even want

I can deal with that sacrifice
>>
>>385536686
Sadly, there isn't much demand for Vita emulation.
Most of the games are ported to PC anyway, even the newest Ys.
There are some worthwhile exclusives like P4G, SSD, and Muramasa Rebirth, to name a few.
Meanwhile, 3DS emulation is progressing pretty well with Citra.
>>
>>385537895
>Although injecting SNES roms to the new 3DS is the best way to play SNES on the go.
Not with that D-pad placement.
>>
>>385538042
I'm on 3.65. Can I still attempt this?
>>
>>385538083
3DS XL D pad placement is comfy

I have both the n3DS and n3DS XL and even though it's heavier, the XL is ultimately more comfy.

I just wish there was a way I could mirror the two in terms of software, saves, etc. so that I could just pick whichever one up I felt like for that day (both have CFW/b9s)
>>
>>385538187
you can do this on any firmware. all you're doing is swapping your vita board for a lower firmware version.
>>
>>385538187
Well considering you;re essentially putting a 3.60 Vita inside of the housing of your current Vita, it doesn't matter what firmware your current Vita is on (so yes.)
>>
>>385538042
>for like 6 months already

Nice. Is there anything specific that needs to run or is it as simple as copying and loading the file like PSP?
>>
>>385538320
I see. Do you have a video on this? On /hbg/ I don't see anything in the OP.
>>
>>385535268

>>385534276

>>
>>385538501
yes
>>
>>385538442
look up a video on youtube how to tear down your specific vita model. when you get to the part where they remove the motherboard, put in the new motherboard, then follow the video in reverse to put it all back together.
>>
>>385534483
Does this take paypal?
>>
>>385533770
So can it play games that require 3.61+ firmware?
>>
>>385538451
Vita is never getting a emulator.
It took FIVE YEARS for the first exploit. Imagine how long it will take to reverse engineer the entire system without documentation.
>>
How long until all firmware can be hacked and shit runs as well as on the PSP?
>>
Is there anyway to downgrade to 3.60 yet?
>>
>>385536815

It's not comfy. Due to being directly under the Circle-pad you have to place your thumb at a somewhat unnatural angle which can lead to soreness in games that make heavy use of diagonals or rolling of the D-pad.

> even though it's heavier, the XL is ultimately more comfy
This is always the case unless you're a handlet.

not when you use the proper filter. for example, scanlines look great for 2D games. for 3d games, you want to use bilinear filtering.
>>
>>385544002
honestly, like $180. 32 is nice but now since this hack, it aint worth it. You could probably jump it up to 220 at the most on ebay and someone will bite it if you put "CFW READY" in the title
>>
>>385555869
Native res will always give you the sharpest image. Any upscaling will immediately introduce blurring.
>>
>>385556120
Explain to me why games on PPSSPP look drastically better than on an actual psp
>>
>>385556180
Because PPSSPP come with the ability to boost the actual render resolution that you look at. Upscaling is taking the resolution you've been given and stretching it out.
>>
>>385555703
Since it's 4x the resolution, it scale properly so it's not that bad in this case.
It is a bigger screen though so it'll look less sharp than on a regular PSP, and doubly so compared to a PSP GO

>>385556180
Vita has a native PSP chip and just takes the PSP game, and fills the screen but since it's exactly 4x the pixels it does so nicely.
PPSSPP can render the game at higher than 480x272 resolution, then output that to the screen making it look nicer.
You two are arguing about different things.
>>
>>385556180
Because evidently you don't know what upscaling means.

There's now a method to boot directly into henkaku.
There's a device now that you insert in the cart slot that expends the memory of the device via SD cards.
All still 3.60 tho.

>>385562303
Almost a year ago there was a security loophole that allowed you to connect to a website on your Vita and after it loaded you could run programs that weren't approved by Sony. Homebrew, FTP, emulators. But everytime you booted up your Vita you need to run the website for your apps to work again. Now you don't have to connect on boot.

I guess I'll just make my way through the five physical games I bought and hope by the time I've beat them all something has been done. Luckily one of them is Persona 4. go to henkaku.xyz and install

then go to enso.henkaku.xyz on your PC, press the big download button

move that vpk to :ux0/data vian an FTP client on PC and FTP mode on molecular shell (self installs at the same time as henkaku) [open FTP in molecularshell by pressing START)

close FTP, open the vpk, it'll install a bubble on the homescreen. click that, follow instructions, reboot.

the battery had a extra pin. if you bent the pin, it triggered the factory service mode in the vita. being in that mode made it easier to hack the system.

Probably never. It took years. Literal years, for PPSSPP to even be capable of running a single game, or even render 3D shapes and polygons. JPCSP was significantly further ahead and only after their bullshit with trying to stamp out piracy (lel while making an emulator) by reporting IPs and doing nefarious shit with anyone who tried to load a game modded to work on m33 cfw. Literally the entire scene moved from JPCSP to PPSSPP overnight. literally. unironically, proper english definition literally 15,000 people joined the PPSSPP forums in a single night.

>>
>>385566150
Don't expect very many if at all of them to happen.
PSP had much more users, and very good emulators on PC and smartphones and even it had trouble getting many fan translations.
There's about 5x less Vitas than PSPs and no emulator to speak of. In the case of Vita only VNs, most of those already have youtube videos where they superimposed the translation over them in segments so they likely won't go back and do work to get the whole thing working.
>>
>>385566553

so I didn't hack my vita (cause I bought all the games I was interested in for 3.60 and older) but I was noticing some weird stuff happening with my vita the last few months. Sometimes if I leave it in sleep mode for a few weeks without turning it on, it just... Doesn't. I know the device is on, but the screen doesn't turn on. I have to power it down, then boot it up in safe mode for the screen to finally turn back on, but then it works fine.

Obviously I don't use my vita that little very often, it's a great little twitch/netflix machine while i'm sitting and doing paperwork on the PC and need to focus, but it's still concerning. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue.

Are new vita tvs on 3.6?
Can someone link me to how to get the whitelist and how to use a usb hard drive?
>>
>>385568182
you don't
google adrenaline easy installer
>>
As much as I want to buy a Vita for a portable source of entertainment, I can't justify buying one because there really isn't anything I want to play in the PSP/Vita library.

Does Vita have support for epub/pdf documents so I can at least read?
>>
>>385567984
download adrenaline easy installer
follow the steps
drag and drog psp isos into psp iso game folder using vitashell
load psp games from adrenaline xmb
>>
>>385568184
I'd like to think him and I are normal and people who use sony online/as their primary. Or worse achievement whores, are the minority
>>
>>385568269

Activating it allows for PSP and PS1 piracy, right?
>>
>>385568347
you don't need to activate for that, just use adrenaline easy installer.

Yep. It's a turn-based RPG where you collect ingredients and synthesize them to complete quests. It's also really cute.
>>
Can I use my vita as a phone?
>>
>>385568329
good luck finding a "new" vita in stores. they're all gone and retailers don't restock them. your best bet is gamestop, craigslist, or ebay.
>>
Can someone post their hand next to their PS Vita?
I need something for scale.
>>
>>385568329
Probably true, I just d on't know anyone that has bought a new vita since I bought mine in like 2013 with p4g.
>>
>>385567983
Found one for the first model but it's like 80$ on ebay lol
>>
can I finally play 3.61 + games on my 3.60 Vita? if no then I don't care.
>>
>>385568494
activating your vita allows you to download PSN store content or transfer stuff from a PS3
>>
How long until Switch does it all but even better?
>>
>>385568551
would you take one next to my cock?
>>
>>385568674
>How long until Switch does it
Knowing how shit nintendo is, probably won´t be long
>all but even better?
lol
>>
>>385568534
there used to be a skype app that worked for the 3g model, but it doesn't anymore.

For you
>>
>>385564780
Don't do something stupid like play a pirated digital only game because they will definitely be able to tell that you pirated it.

Spoofing is broken at the moment anyway so you won't be online in the first place.
>>
>>385568787
No, because an inch isn't at all enough to convey scale.
>>
>>385568916
>not black.
Where is /v/s official hand model?
>>
>>385568618
No
>>
>>385568916
Cheers, mate.
>>
>>385568674
If you use the 3DS as an example, it launched February 26, 2011. It didn't get a flash cart until August 2013. And it didn't start getting proper CFW until late 2015.
>>
>>385569114
the switch also has kernel access less than 5 months into it's life though.
>>
>>385569198
kernel access means nothing without having code execution. it's like having a key to someones door but you forgot about the lock above it.
>>
>>385568931
How is spoofing broken?
>>
>>385568985
I'm actually Caribbean so technically I am black.
>>
>>385568916
Could you post your feet?
>>
>>385569329
It goes in and out with every update. I haven't really looked into it, I just know that I have enso and spoofing is enabled yet I was not able to look at my trophies.
>>
>>385569315
it's one step closer to it especially with the poor protections on the switch. It's comparable to the PSP in that regard, and we all remember how quickly after we got kernel access that dark_alex got code execution up and running on the PSP.
>>
>>385566526
Play psp games with a better screen and 2 joysticks
>>
>>385569472
dark_alex was a fucking wizard though
>>
>>385552237
The hardware is kind of odd. The cpu and ram sit right on top of each other. So there is no easy way to dump memory. The exploit that henkaku uses took about 5 years to develop and i think because of the cpu ram setup that another vuln won't be found by any individual any time soon if ever
>>
>/v/ keeps telling me tokyo yabadabadu is a fantastic game
>Finally played it
>Its just an "okay" game with nothing spectacular about it
>>
>>385569649
He was, and I trust that someone in the switch community will be on his level.

He was also the most eloquently spoken south american I've ever had the pleasure of working with. A shame about his brother though.
>>
>>385552237
well for starters, the Vita has a chip dedicated to decrypting games. you can't play games unless the eboot file get decrypted by that chip.
>>
>>385569783
>south american
DarK_AleX was a Spaniard
>>
>end up using the PSP mode most of the time
>>
>>385570164
That's not even a bad thing. The screen on the Vita is an order of magnitude better than the one on the PSP, so playing PSP games on it is much more enjoyable.
>>
>>385570015
Nah m8 he lived in chile. He was a college student in spain.
>>
>>385533770
I was right here. Waiting for them to be absolutely dirt-cheap so I could replace my water-damaged PSP.
>>
>>385569445
my feet are really gross
>>
>>385533770
oh boy

is it still 3.60 only?
>>
>>385570241
not to mention that the d-pad on the vita shits all over the d-pad on the psp and you got the benefit of using bilinear filtering so games look less jaggy.
>>
>>385570318
yes, buy a 3.60 motherboard for $20
>>
>>385547198
what's the hentai of this pic
>>
oh boy, retroarch is ported on vita

this might actually do well
>>
>>385570164
same, but I don't mind. PSP was a great handheld and if the Vita means better hardware then it only gets greater.
>>
How does PSP do as emulator? Can it handle SNES without slightlest stutters? What about 3d era? I guess Sony could probably slap some kind of PSX emu box in PSP, so i bet it does PSX nicely, but can it handle n64?
>>
>>385570919
PSP is shit at SNES and N64. But it's good at NES, Genesis, and PS1.

is getting a vita when you don't like jap games a bad idea?
>>
>>385570313
That's even better if you ask me
>>
>>385571231
It is unless you like playing western indies and a couple of shooters. I like japanese games but not pandering heavy games so a lot of the vita library is null to me.
