>be me
>moved to another floor with no direct Ethernet to router
>am using a WiFi USB adapter for my PC
>solid 4-5 bar connection, videos, web pages load well, good d/l speeds, etc.
>online gaaaaymin loads well except for the random massive ping spikes during gameplay
To solve this last issue, should I: go for a Powerline Adapter, or buy a Range Extender and place it between my PC & the router? The router is 2 floors away.

On TP-Link's website there's only one USB 3.0 one that supports a/c. That's the one I have and it's perfect.
>>385528127
>TP-Link
Shit, I'm using that brand too, but pic related. I bought some 5 or something years ago if I recall correctly.
I should definitely get me a USB 3.0 one, though. Thanks for the tip.
Buy a longer ethernet cable. 100ft = $14

God damn
Just get a fucking cable
50 meters is the limit or it may be even more
>>385527660
Get a powerline adapter. If you can't get a wire from here to there it's the next best thing. Fuck wifi.
>>385527660
get a cable

I have a quad band ac adapter which gives me 1300mbit connection with full bars to my router. I have never noticed any lag spikes since getting it.
>>385527842
this is the correct answer
I know guys, I wish I could use a line lads but I'm far far far. 100 feet wouldn't do it. I'd need 250. And I'm also not drilling anything.
>>385529781
Which model mate?
Since I have a Netgear router I may get a Netgear adapter too, just for compatibility purposes (though I'm sure it really doesn't matter but I'm autistic that way).
>>385527660
I had this problem once, you just get a REALLY long ethernet cord. I know that's not what you're looking for, but seriously, get a male/male adapter if you need too. Wireless is shit, and should never be used if possible. I ran a 100ft ethernet cord though an airvent and down a flight of stairs and it was 100% worth it.
>>385531356
Asus PCE-AC88 adapter and RT-AC66U router.
>>385531356
Windows, airvents, get creative. At 250ft your wireless signal is going to be shit anyways.
You could get three 100ft'ers and connect them into a 300ft cord, still probably the best solution.
>>385531356
>And I'm also not drilling anything.
Internet will one day be a basic right, like water, or electricity, and you're not willing to drill a couple of holes?
Pathetic. There's nothing worse than running into some faggot with the most inconsistent hitreg because he's too poor/stupid to use an ethernet cord instead of wireless. regardless of if his ping is stable or not.
>>385527660
Try those Ethernet ports you plug into the power outlets, you get one big one that you connect to your router, and another small one that you plug into any other room on the same power grid, runs the internet right through the power, works pretty damn well, cheaper than getting an Ethernet could drilled through your wall.
>>385532421
Yup, those are "powerline adapters" which is what I'm going to buy and try out.

Update your firmware, nerd.
>>385532207
He's likely in an apartment complex of some sort. You can't just go drilling holes willy nilly. Especially if you have numbers beside or below you. You'll get kicked out faster than your current internet.
I bought a powerline adapter for my apartment since I keep the router and modem in my bedroom because the cats kept knocking it over. It works fine for me. I suppose it depends on how good the wiring is.
>>385535524
I should add that I had a similar problem to you. Speeds were usually fine with random spikes during games that started to get irritating. Probably due my girlfriend using the wifi or the neighbors having their own shit.

So have I but I made them do it

>>385534983
Nah, in my case as in said in OP, this house sadly has just 1 working coax cable plug which is on the highest floor. I'm on the bottom. Stinks a bit, but hey.

Are you in the basement or are you living in an OG xbox?
