Also, it puts him at risk. If Doomfist misses, he's now standing next to the person he tried to kill. If Roadhog misses the hook, he's still back with the rest of his team, safe and sound.

Flanking only worked against Diamond and below. Half decent teams would never even let Roadhog be able to flank. Roadhog, in higher levels, was used to counter D.VA. Because he is the ONLY hero that can stop her from using it and chunk her health down.

People complained about the hook, said it was unsatisfying to be one shot by it.

The hook was honestly a well designed insta-kill IMO, especially after they fixed it so it didn't go round walls. It taught people to understand their positioning and use cover properly, and rewarded you for avoiding the hook like that with him being a huge ult battery. Zaryas and D.Vas meant it wasn't as much of an instant death at that, since they could reactively save you. It was also a good answer to flankers constantly getting in your teams back line. If you want to make a character that can insta-kill, Roadhog was honestly great.

You know what is unsatisfying to fight against because of one hit kills? Widowmaker and Hanzo. Their one shot isn't on a cooldown. Their one shot is instantaneous and from potentially infinitely far away. And in the case of Widow, you HAVE TO direct counter or she will just be able to take potshots at you constantly. And yet people are not just okay with snipers, they're probably the most popular class type in the entire genre.

Unfortunately, these same people are now complaining about Defense Matrix and frankly I don't think they'll be satisfied until the game is just shootan only and there's literally no reason to pick anyone other than Soldier, McCree, Widow, Hanzo, Tracer and Genji.

They changed their mind because the community kept complaining. They've said before that their design decisions are influenced by what the community thinks is or isn't fun.

For the most part I don't that's steered them wrong before, but I think the Roadhog changes are the first big example of this mindset causing a bad decision.

Yes, being one shot by Roadhog isn't exactly satisfying, but it's avoidable, and punishable and rewarding if you do punish it. He also had important roles as a tank that were great.

But people don't like anything that isn't just shooting. Right now the most whining is about Defense Matrix because "wow it just nullifies everything I do" (because apparently people dislike that a tank can tank). Which is why I fear this turning into a slippery slope and basically anything that isn't just shooting characters is getting to get nerfed, weakened or reworked until the game becomes cartoon CSGO as >>385527720 put it.

As a hardcore D.Vafag, this is probably my least favourite meta.

I'm actually genuinely considering taking a break from the game (which I've played every day since it came out) just because I stopped playing QP to get away from 5 DPS teams, only for Comp to turn into 4 DPS teams every match.

Blizzard has no fucking clue how to balance their games and they play round robin buffs/nerfs, roadhog just got the nerf, which means he's gonna get buffed again in about a year's time. Have fun!

DM deals no damage at all, it cannot counter anything.
It BLOCKS 90% of the abilities in the game, yes... But so does Reinhardt's shield, and Orisa's shield, and Winston's shield, and Zarya's bubble, and Symmetra's shield.

He doesn't need to be, he just needs to be between you and your target, and if the team is better than silver they know to keep their rein in front of them.

That's 12 seconds for a full health shield.

DM has a 1 second cooldown and takes 10 seconds to refill completely

Rein and Dva can both put their shield down before it runs out to restore it,
