What's a good, fair amount of time for a video game before dropping it?

Less than 2 hours so you can refund it on Steam

Once you understand the core mechanic or overarching storyline.

Sometimes this can take a while, sometimes it's obvious.

I remember playing a DS game for all of about 15 minutes before returning it to Gamestop for roughly 20% of what I paid.

Lets play footage on youtube
>>
>>385523383
At LEAST one full play through. After that you can decide fairly if it's worth replaying.

How will you let all your friends know what you're playing?

>>385523383
depends on the genre, i usually give it an hour or two.
if i'm not intrested or having fun, i move on.
>>
>>385523383
After the first level, world, or whatever I think...but you have to remember that most games now the two-three levels are tutorial, so the first one after that

I give threads one post before I drop it.

Games are different in that the progression is based entirely on how the game works and in most cases how good you are/how much it rewards your skill.
A mechanically unenjoyable game shouldn't be given the time of day unless something else manages to hook you like the character writing or story.

If the title screen doesn't impress me, I immediately stop playing it there.
>>
>>385525924
Dragons Age Inc. had a great title screen but it all went downhill from there.

I always drop a game after I see a minimum of 5 threads of /v/ complaining about it
>>
>>385526030
I came to post about this game. I forced myself to party Inquisition for way too long.

Sometimes when you know, you know
>>
When you understand where the game is going. For shovelware shit it shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes but some things can be deceptive, like MGSV when you realize the first couple of hours is the rest of the game.

>bragging about being cheap

2 hours. Or just under if it's from Steam.

This really depends on your personal preferences, so take mine on a grain of salt. I give a game one, may be two play sessions. A session may be an hour or three depending on how comfortable I am. Still, I try to cut games off early because the more I play, the more vested I am in seeing it through, even if it isn't very fun.
>>
>>385523383
jrpgs don't actually start until about 40 hours in, so somewhere around there.
>>
>RPGs
1 1/2 - 2 hours
>FPS
45 minutes
>Hack and Slash
30 minutes
>3rd Person
30 minutes - 1 hour depending
>Open world
1 hour give or take
>Puzzle games
30-45 minutes
>Visual novel
1 hour unless the story is absolute trash
>Racing games
15 minutes
>Sports Games
30 minutes

Until you get bored
>>
>>385523383
Just look up gameplay videos before purchasing.
also
>give a show 3 episodes before you drop it
2 episodes should be enough, and that's only when the first episode you watch is the pilot.
>>
>>385523383
Depends on the game. I'd say anywhere from one to three hours.
>>
>>385523904
Some games take 30+ hours for one playthrough, so you're suggesting wasting 30+ hours on a piece of shit game before dropping it? Are you retarded?
>>
>>385523383
30-60 minutes minus the tutorial. Though if the tutorial is shitty, boring and unskipable I drop it right away.
>>
>>385523383
One /v/ thread.
>>
>>385523383
2 hours. you can still get refund on steam.
