Really makes you think, eh?
>>

>"try" VR
>for hundreds of dollars
>for tech demo non-games
This is why it's a meme.
>>
Robo Recall, Superhot VR, Star Trek Bridge Crew and the Rick and Morty game all deliver on the potential of VR. /v/ will get on board when it's cheaper.
>>
/v/ is full of poorfags, what else is new?

I kinda want to try VR whilst on acid, whilst playing pic related. I seriously wanna know what it's like.

>spend 800 dollars for a "system" that hasn't had ONE game that has been declared an overall MUST PLAY to warrant its purchase as opposed to the minimum 2 you need.
>supposedly amazing concept that would revolutionize the industry hasn't produced a unique fucking game yet, just variations on other games that now take place in first person with obtuse controls

yeah nah ur a cunt.
>>
>>385522390
I've tried different devices at my university multiple times, and it definitely is shit.
Strapping mobile phone screens to your face doesn't have anything to do with virtual reality
>>
I tried it. It's shit. There is no support for it. No good games. Nothing is being prepared for it and if you try to use it for PC you are gonna end fucking up your vision. I bought it on friday and monday morning I was threatening with sueing if I didn't get my money back and I they gave it to me.
>>
>>385523346
I'm gonna play Farpoint with the gun controller, as well as Archangel. Just gotta save some cash.
>>

I tried VR last week, it was fun for 30 minutes, great value.

That hasn't been true for over a year now.

This is how you know only paid shills support VR.

Next you'll tell me mobile gaming is amazing

Lone Echo is pretty great too. Solid campaign and mechanics are constantly used in situations that make sense.

I think it also highlights the differences between VR and traditional game setups. If it were joypad or M&KB, the game would be just floating around doing puzzles and fetch quests. Because motion controls mean you have to push and pull yourself around or aim thrusters, just getting place to place is a challenge and the later game is an assault course of shit you have to dodge. It's not 'efficient' but it's more fun.
>>
>>385524412
There's examples already listed in the thread. Gorn, Onward and apps like SoundStage and art stuff are also great uses of VR.

It's not that I can't, it's just me calling out your 'tactics' before you use them.
>>
>>385524528

And next you'll tell me you haven't tried it :^)
>>
Echo Arena is legit fantastic
>>
I honestly think the majority of 'naysayers' are just trolls fishing for (you)s at this point. Even if you can't afford one or think the games need to get better, who's seriously going to look at that level of interaction and think "Man, I'm sure better off with my tiny 2D screen, button plate and click pointer."?
>>
>>385523346

I gave the Vive demo at the Microsoft store in midtown a try. It was novel and interesting, but wasn't worth the $800 price of entry.
The passing whale demo was kind of fun with the scale of the scene the goggles were able to create, but the walking area was tiny and it only made me realize that most action scenes have a limited view of what is important anyway.
There was some sort of turret shooter game made by Valve, can't remember the name. Interesting as a tech demo for the accuracy of the motion controls. Still, why would anyone want to play an HD remake of what is essentially The Hive or any of those awful FMV turret shooters from the 90's?
The 3D paint demo was really fun and relaxing. It was like being half way between a painter and a sculptor.
>>
>>385526689
Yeah it's called scat and that doesn't make it ok.
>>
I have a Gear VR and it's pretty cool. Oculus and PSVR any worth it?

A better platitude is "you don't have to drink the whole gallon of milk to know if it's sour." That way it makes it sound like you've done some preliminary investigation and aren't totally ignorant.
>>
>>385526854
Depends on your disposable income. It won't change your life, but it's fun.
>>
>>385522390
I will take /vr/ games over VR games any time.
>>
I don't give a fuck about vr games other than porn games. I have some fetishes that would greatly benefit from vr, but nobody is making those games. Just start making good porn games and those things would sell like dildos on op's house.
>>
Worth every penny, even with the issues that come with early adoption. It's given me some of the funnest, most immersive experiences I've ever had in gaming.
>>
>>385527987
What is your fetish?
>>
I recently got a oculus with their summer deal.
Here is my 4chan exclusive review:

the small resolution per eye is actually noticeable, although the brain seems so smooth that out pretty good. Only game where I constantly noticed it was a racer, Redout, although it still wasnt a show stopper for me.

Immersion is actually a pretty big deal, you really experience shit completely different from regular games and everything is much more intense. Feels very great but is much more tiring.

There are a lot of games, but most of them are tech demos and simple indy games. There are a few very good ones, but overall the options are still very limited. Also vr games are kinda expensive and are not near as long as regular ones.
Personally I don't mind it that much, since I don't play vr much per week. a few hours at most.

Standing vr setups seem to be the standard for many games, altoughg I still feel limited. I cleared my living room to make place for a room scale setup. its much better but requires a shitload of space.

I cannot fathom why anyone would waste over $400 on this shit and thats provided you already have all the extra shit you need.

With just the headset, it's mostly visuals/immersion. Some games you use headtracking to aim with mixed results or in Elite, you can access side panels while looking at them. Still worth it for that 1:1 scale 360 3D though.

As for motion controllers, it's a weird mix of making some things easier and others harder but in a good way. Aiming a gun by hand can be more difficult then using a mouse for some people and a lot of games require you to manually reload instead of just pressing a button. But it's fun and other players have to do the same thing, so it's also fair.

just sad when people are "so what? I can do that with a key", because that's essentially a QTE. Who wants to play a game where everything is done with a few button presses?
>>
>>385533309
how does walking in these games work? i thought using a joystick gave people motion sickness, unless that was just skyrim because of camera wobble or something. still, i think when its viable to buy a pad you can walk on to move around, thats when id want to buy in. also im pretty poor atm so it makes sense to wait regardless

>Monoscopic low res videos in VR
You need the real shit like Fantasynth and Surge
>>
>>385534412
either joystick or teleporting depending on the game. joystick gets shit on because it's jarring as fuck for a little while having your eyes and ears say "you're moving" while every other sense insists you're standing in one place. I got over it within 15 minutes, and getting used to 'falling' took me about a half hour. Every time I've gone back and done VR i've been perfectly comfortable with it.

People got motion sickness and nausea and all that shit from 3D gaming, too, but the people whining about VR are probably too young to remember it.

just thinking about that in VR makes me feel weird

given how anti-piracy /v/ is, one would thought they have money to throw into the trash.
>>
>>385522390
I've tried it. It's shit. I don't want cumbersome face monitors on my head. I don't want to spend two weeks being nauseous just to get used to the pieces of shit either.
>>
>>385535537
PC of course. Consoles have no power to pull off decent vr.
>>385535753
Only cucks are anti-piracy thought. Just remember guys, Jesus was the first pirate.
>>
>>385535753
/v/ isn't anti-piracy. /v/ is anti faggots. It just so happens that many of the nu-pirates are complete faggots.
>>
>>385534412
>>385535186
joystick movement is fine so long as there's no headbob or tilt, which was what made HL2 unplayable for a lot of people. It's can make your balance weird if you're standing though, so Onward keep walk speeds low and warn people to be wary of it.

Another tactic is to use shutters whenever the player is moving. Narcosis has black shades on the sides of the suit's visor and Gorn has a peephole thing. There's also 'cages' that remain as an anchor of the players surroundings, like Windlands uses.
>>
Tried one of theose Oculus demos at electronic stores. Didn't like it.
>>
can you play mount and blade with VR and motion controls? will mordhau have vr support?

Own a Rift and love it but I think we need double the current resolution and more FOV before it will really win out.

That said, only shortsighted morons would want VR to fail because of the current gen's shortcomings. Technology doesn't work like that.

Modern day implementations still seem as proprietary and locked down as the VFX-1.

What we really need is proper standards and APIs for this thing. Video cards were the same shitmess back in the 90's until DirectX and OpenGL kicked them in line.

>>385536753
That is the weirdest basketball uniform I've ever seen.
>>
>>385536865
It's very much a DK2 title using only the Joypad and headtracking. Still good for making you feel like you're cramped inside a suit with just a plane of glass between you can the horrors.
>>
>>385537126
>locked down
No, not in the slightest. Where'd you get that idea from?

Obviously Oculus and Steam aren't going to stock porn games but you're free to develop and play whatever you like outside of those platforms. It's just hardware.
>>
>>385537126
Also SteamVR does a decent job of bridging the gap between different headsets. A lot of titles meant only for Vive will play on Oculus, though with some keybinding issues.
>>
>>385529885
Bullshit. You know damn well the vast majority of /v/ hasn't tried VR.
