What actually happened to F-Zero, /v/? Do you think Nintendo has any plans for it in the near future?
Feel free to talk about anything F-Zero related here.
Also if anyone has a link to download the soundtrack with the expansion kit songs for X I would really appreciate it
>>
I mean, nintendo could put a new game on the switch and I'd buy it.
>>
Nintendo can't think of a shitty gimmick to throw onto a new game. They also don't want to cut into Mario Kart sales.
>>
>>385497037
So would I, but I think the question is if they ever will or not.
>>
>>385497151
I said the same thing about the Wii.

RIP f zero

>>385496982
>We want to make a new game with fresh, innovative ideas, otherwise, whats the point?
>>
Miyamoto won't green light it because he doesn't get why anyone would want another one.

Literally, that's the reason.

Alright, I don't want this thread to be too depressing.
Post those favorites.

They could literally put in a track editor and let you share tracks online Mario Maker style and it would work great.

Would be an amazing way to bring back the X Cup.

Reminder that Criterion almost developed a new F-Zero for the Wii U but they declined Nintendo's offer.

I'm optimistic that we'll see a new installment this gen. I think Nintendo's just looking for the right partner to revive the series.

WHY

But it's nintendo.
When do they ever do anything the fans want anymore?
>>
>>385497715
I'm convinced if Criterion put their hands on F-Zero they would find some way to turn it into a Burnout game.

I didn't know this.
Why the fuck did they do that

This, pretty much. Nintendo is very much against doing the same thing but on a newer system with prettier graphics. They only want to make sequels if they can add on to the formula in some way. And they can't really figure out how to improve on F-Zero GX at all.
>>
>>385496982
F-Zero never sold as well as some people like to believe. Also, Nintendo has another more successful racing series and, aside from platformers, Nintendo only likes to develop one franchise per genre.

>>
>>385498058
Oh, and arcade racers are basically dead as a genre. The Wipeout remaster didn't sell gangbusters.
>>
>>385497715
>Criterion
EA owns them, and given their "support" of the Wii U, EA probably made sure that project didn't happen behind the scenes.

Which, I preferred another generation of silence to letting EA have a chance to play with F-Zero.
>>
>>385498058
I agree with you, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't get a new game.
Also they used to have Mario Kart and F-Zero on the same system at least three different times, I don't see why they couldn't do that again.
>>
>>385497961
>we got need for speed most wanted instead of f-zero

Maybe it's for the best
>>
>>385496982
>What actually happened to F-Zero, /v/?

GX was a very expensive project that had Nintendo and Sega come together and make an extremely fine-tuned high-speed racing game
It barely broke a million sales, if that
Mario Kart sells a billion copies regardless of platform or gimmick

you do the math
>>
GX killed it by being too hardcore.
>>
I personally want a remastered version of F-Zero X. Because EAD focused on pulling off 60fps on the N64, the visuals are beyond ugly. A remaster that completely overhauls the graphics and includes all the content from the 64DD expansion kit would be amazing.
>>
>>385498364
SEGA actually outdid themselves and made a fucking good and fun racer.
>>
>>385498451
That alienated all but the most hardcore F-Zero fans. For a series to survive, you need to keep pumping fresh blood into it. GX went too far.
>>
>>385498309
Comparing F-Zero sales to Mario Kart sales is hardly fair, considering Mario Kart tends to outsell everything else on whatever system it's on, including mainline Mario games.
>>
They released a second F-Zero on the GBA which sold like dog shit, I think that was the final nail.
It was the fault of their marketing, as usual. I was a huge fan at the time and I didn't even know it was out.
>>
>>385497725
I felt this way for ages, but the GX soundtrack grew on me heaps, there's some absolutely amazing go fast music

also the metal isn't completely gone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFb0GJmvlEQ

but how can you hate this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-SvxevJrso

>>
Is the series generally eager to rape your ass with no lube, or is that just a GX thing? I enjoyed bleeding from the ass for GX after a while when I started to improve, but my stuff got erased, and I haven't played in years, so I'm sure I'd have to start all over. If the other games are less into painal then maybe I could play them instead.

GX's skill ceiling was fine. The hardest difficulties should be brutal. I agree though, it's basically impossible for new players. Simply finishing a race can be hard for a new player, let alone winning or doing the story mode.

F-Zero would be a great guinea pig for experimenting with their online services
I'd love to see some kind of combination of Forza and splatoon in terms of online stuff.
Like a weekend event that's just one huge long racetrack.

That does not help. 64 emulation is wonky as hell not already adding 64DD emulation to the mix.

Nintendo should have ported F- Zero X to the 3DS with the Expansion Kit content.

>SNES Mini has the unreleased Star Fox 2

Perhaps N64 Mini can have X with the Expansion kit.
And then they'll show a new game at E3 as well.
And then F-Zero will finally get a second character in Smash bros.
And then I'll wake up and cry.

>>
>>385498513
It's pretty fair actually, considering Nintendo has limited resources and can't develop all of its IPs.
If you had to choose between two racing series, one of which has sold 115 million copies and one of which has sold 2 million, which would you choose?
>>
>>385498924
I have no problem with the skill ceiling. The skill floor was just too high. F-Zero started out as a simple fast racing series with cakewalk controls that anyone could get into and have fun. GX was far from that.
>>
>>385499385
>Nintendo should have ported F- Zero X to the 3DS with the Expansion Kit content.

By God.

F-Zero would be perfect for 3D.
Just imagine speeding down the inside of a tube, upside down, at super speeds, rain and lightning flickering by your face, making a jump over 20+ other racers...
>>
>>385498924
I'd recommend X, I just beat the game today and for 90% of it I used Blue Falcon with three notches in speed, just doing side bashes for turns.
>>385499817
That sounds really amazing in concept, but knowing how underpowered the 3DS is it would probably run at like 20 FPS.
>>
>>385498058
RPGs? Pokemon and the Mario and Luigi games are always getting pumped out.
>>
>>385500326
Game Freak is in charge of Pokemon for the most part.
>>
>>385499941
If Nintendo could make 60 fps on the Nintendo 64 happen for the N64, they can also do it for the 3DS if they wanted to.
>>
>>385500804
That was when they gave a shit though
>>
Someone describe F Zero to me for someone who's only racing games have been Mario Kart/Burnout/Gran Turismo
