I honestly got stuck trying to find the first boss. I walked past the room or something but it was marked on my map so I thought I cleared it already and I couldn't find where to go. Eventually I stumbled into the boss area and killed him. After that the game opens up a lot.

I just killed the soul tyrant in the dream and I'm wandering around in the deep nest looking for the town down there.

The bug who was digging and singing in the crystal caverns was really nice, I hope nothing bad happens to her.

It's not actually that hard to find the essence, the hard part is finishing the dream bosses, but I think you don't need to beat any of the dream bosses just to get the true dream nail, you only need to do the fallen warriors which are pretty easy. The white palace is far more frustrating than any of the fallen warriors.
