Irocnally enough, Gil got more than the other romances. Liam, Vetra, Suvi, and Reyes get a fade to black and you're back in the game. With Gil it's goes fade to black and then it shows the two of them lying naked on the bed where they have a few lines before it's back to the game

It's the same reason African-American/black characters tend to be uninteresting or bland--the white male writers who write them are afraid of drawing the ire of people, and thus make them one-note, shallow characters with little depth and usually no faults.

It's sad because there's probably a pantheon of great gay or black characters who just won't ever get written because the writers are afraid of offending people either through actual incompetence or the audience's sensitivity.
