extra weight and space that reduces available space for cooling, battery cells, etc. How often do you honestly use the optical drive on a laptop? I bought a laptop with a Blu-ray drive in 2010 and only used the drive maybe a dozen times before replacing the computer.

Now I just use a USB optical drive I got for $15 on Amazon on the rare occasions I need one. I've never been somewhere on my battery and gone "oh shit, I need to read a CD"
