I have a priority list:
1. feels good to play
2. is cute or just has a design that I like a lot
3. doesn't have a lot of bad matchups, neutral matchups are fine
they are weighted in that order. I've recently realised "Feels good to play" to me usually means having incredibly strong aerials and just under intermediate difficulty combos, and usually tend to play very aggressive.

It's really just a matter of getting used to them, they aren't really harder or easier, in my opinion.
Also Alex is sort of a hybrid, since he only has like 3 charge moves and the rest are normal commands. He may even be a good way to get used to charge inputs, since you don't really need to use his charge moves that often to succeed.
