In promotional material for spin-offs, I feel like I always see Cloud, Tidus and Lightning obviously, but they seem to alternate between Squall and Zidane, probably depending on whoever is directing the trailer.

I know that's why I think it serves as one of my essence series, that I collect. It's VIII. It has no cohesion. It does whatever the fuck it wants. It's clearly psychological game centered on imperfect relationship and an unclear feeling throughout in the sense that it's all so artificial and wrong that you can't grasp it, making a blurry picture perfect. Fate and mumbo jumbo too. Yet at the end it was also a romance game all along apparently.

But I'm not really happy with it. (I have a similar problem finding a good picture for some other FFs, especially II.) That's why I have several. But this just Squall being contemplative and dour. Yet its my primary, because Squall is a downer for my enjoyment and the game is certainly in many ways about him growing up, being the central subject of the game. It's much less ideal,but more personal.

Selphie was the one redesign he didn't fuck up, because he just changed her boots to sandals and left everything else exactly the same. Still, Nomura's not the same person he was 20 years ago. Any new designs for an ff8 reboot would be unrecognizable trash.

Well I will say, just for the sake of it, that this is a total failure of a redesign. The point of Selphie is that she wears the clothes of a child because she's an autistic crazy person, who hasn't grown up. Making her an actual child dissolves all that.

Best music?....I don't know about that. It was great, don't get me wrong, but I still think 7's soundtrack is superior. But I agree with everything else you said. Unfortunately, I was 10 when I first played through it and didn't understand the junction system that well, and I ended up having a pretty rough time until the endgame(when I finally understood everything). Nothing like 100 holy wars to defeat that bastard Omega Weapon. I was also lucky to not have to deal with the "random" rule either
