Just Cause 2. Both may be walking simulators but at least Just Cause 2 made traveling fun to the point where you may never want to quick travel until extremely late into the game.

Ill probably catch a lot of hell for this but I think New Vegas has the least amount of cringe of any of those games. In warband everyone talks in the annoyingly dramatic way that gets really boring and skyrim is even more that way and totally devoid of humor except for a few cancerous bits.

To me, New Vegas was funny and down to earth.

OP, Skyrim is the pinnacle of western RPGS. No other has surpassed it, not even The Witcher 3, which i played for like 8 hours and got rid of it because of its mediocre gameplay and boring character.

Plus Skyrim has tons of mods thanks to the modding community, so yeah, no contender makes it one of the best games ever made and my favorite of all time hands down.

I was amazed at how interesting the Elder Scrolls lore was after reading up on it on the Internet because Skyrim makes it seem like the most boring thing ever; magic is firing multi-colored bullets and the world as a whole just feels incredibly non-magical despite the fact that my first impression of it is that it's generic fantasy or Tolkein Lite. Witcher 3's lore presentation is just miles better and genuinely made me want to find out more about the world.

Warband is good simply because they tried to give some sense of a living world(with factions dynamically conquering each other or lords switching sides, or whatever), rather than give up outright when villagers started murdering each other over an apple.

Though Warband did have the "this map feels too small" problem, some mod-maps sort of tried to fix it.

You know, I didn't get why people like Skyrim that much, it has no depth in either story nor gameplay, but when you find out the key to play the game it becomes a really fun experience.
You just have to turn your brain off and walk to the nearest dungeon, kill everyone, loot it, and go on, is like playing an easy modo rouge-like and thats not bad at all, but after the 100 hours mark the game starts to feel like a waste of time so either you mod the shit out of the game or you give it a year of rest.

I agree there has always been a huge dissonance between the lore and the mundanity of the of the actual games in TES. I'd say that's mostly because the lore was embellished on alot after the first two games with Morrowind being the only one where you get a real taste of it but then Kirkbride leaves after Morrowind and Bethesda has been trying to keep it generic fantasy rpg as possible since actively suppressing any of the weirder aspects despite their popularity amongst the fanbase. Surprisingly TESO seems to be doing a better job of implementing alot of lore stuff than the mainline games have been.
