Wasnt C&C 4 originally some totally different F2P game? EA has a history of stepping into development, forcing a huge change, and subsequently killing both the game and the franchise. Take the most recent SimCity, which was originally a mobile game that was ordered to be converted to full PC release 6 months before launch.

I'm a very calm guy, but there is one game that makes me apoplectic with rage

I can't comprehend it. Why did they take out everything that made GW1 interesting and fun? No (well, less) instances, so no area is even remotely hard or challenging. No customizing skill bars for endless variety and innovative character building. They even got rid of cross classing. They destroyed their own game. Why? Why??

Instances allow you to actually balance an area and have more structure to missions/quests. So instead of quests just like "kill x monsters" you actually had objectives. GW is the best MMO ever precisely because it doesn't follow all the shit MMO tropes that WoW has

Cities were open world though. What is the advantage of having open world areas with fighting? Totally ruins the game, designers have no choice but to just fill the world with shitty mobs so the hordes of players can go round killing them. No structure, no interesting battles, just the same thing over and over. Meanwhile say you are trying to clear an area in GW hard mode; you will come across groups that have been designed in such a way to offer a unique challenge when you fight them. That simply doesn't happen with open world combat. Moreover, in open world everything is designed to be accessible for either groups or individuals, ruining any hope for balance

Probably the original DOTA for speeding up the death of the RTS genre considerably. Also because my best gaming buddies are all MLG faggots who 90% of the time are playing MOBAs.
