Bought this game in the sale, finally started playing it today. It's really fucking intense. Lets talk about it.

I'm about ten hours in. I'm starting to go on level 3 missions and hooooly fuck is there a difficulty spike. This game's a lot of fun.
man at arms #1

How is it fun or heroic to play pretend being a medieval military-industrial complex using people as fodder?
If I wanted to be a technocrat sociopath I'd seek a Dick Cheney-like career, I wouldn't play videogames

It's fun till you get near the end.
Then you realize what a shit game plagued with problems it is.

Same boat as you, longtime friend gifted it to me for shits and giggles and I fell in love with it
Few questions with those of more experience
Is it worth upgrading the XCOM heal on the occultist? Increasing bleed is not what I want
What's a good composition with the abomination? I haven't touched him yet because he just seemed off to me, and because of the party restrictions
I'm doing semi dark runs(snuffing out the torch before some fights), and I stumbled upon you could guess two. After getting two guys afflicted and near 200 stress I managed a retreat. What are some tips on fighting that fuck if I ever come across him again?
What sort of team should I be looking for in the early game? So far my favourite loadout is two big melee hitters at the front, a highwayman with grapeshot and a plague doctor.

Occultist is good, but expect to lose somebody due to 0 heals someday. Occ and BH are bff.
>90+ dodge on my entire party

If you run occultist, make sure to have another off hand healer.
Unless you want to get 0 memed.

I still need to restart the game again (for the third time) I keep playing a little and then getting distracted by something else.

Can't go wrong with Plague Doctor, Vestal, Highway man and Crusader for early game
Expanding beyond that, try: Bounty Hunter, Vestal, Man at Arms, Hellion. A very mobile composition of high hitting and protection

I think it's definitely worth upgrading his heal.
Your heroes gain bleed resist with every resolve level. Starting at veteran you'll notice that the bleed only comes every so often and at champion it's almost impossible for it to bleed you.

You can give Occ a trinket that reduces bleed chance, or get extra bandages if that bothers you.
About to do the third mission in the Darkest Dungeon, what am I in for? Do I need the torch trinkets?
>>385420523
it has loads of blighting iirc

No torch trinkets.
The dungeon is more exhausting than hard, so prepare for that.
Good sets of camping skills are great here.

Yes.
