Depends on the game.
In some, crouching for long lengths of time is viable if not preferred to keep your head down.
In others, crouching may only be a temporary thing to improve your accuracy or duck behind cover or do some shit like a slide.
For example, Hold Crouch on Shift in Titanfall 2 for rapid sliding.
Hold Crouch on Ctrl in something like Team Fortress 2.
Toggle Crouch on something like ARMA or games with multiple postures.

shift to sprint
middle mouse to melee
and my mouse has 12 buttons on the left side so I use to those to manage my inventory or skills, depending on game

I once knew a guy who used right shift to type big letters. He wasn't left handed either
