I live in a moderate sized college town in Texas (about 300,000 residents including the college kids). Near the campus makes me want to an hero whenever I'm forced to drive near it. Out in the suburbs it's fine...two lanes, lights every quarter mile or so at most, laid back drivers.

I round tripped through the US by car. I actually found US drivers to be quite competent and courteous compared to the Belgians here. And yes, I drove in LA too.

I much prefer the "stick to your lane" system of the US over "always drive right law" in Europe. People are constantly switching lanes here and it gets pretty chaotic.

It's fine if you never plan on getting off the freeways, and avoid the central downtown area where there's always construction and morons merging on to go two exits, but the actual roadways are a goddamn clusterfuck.
