That's pretty much what The Amazing Spiderman games were, so probably. Only difference is probably more corridor sequences.

More likely just the Assassin's Creed 3/4 mechanic where you run through a window/door and then a preanimated sequence where you run through the building plays

Analogies are "right" or "wrong." The point of an analogy is to help someone else understand a complex idea. I don't know how stupid people on the internet got the idea that if you come up with a good enough analogy, that counts as some kind of proof that you're right.

Oh I don't know. Make it so momentum carries you through the small gaps and otherwise just have the player direct their movement with small jump button taps and analog stick movement to avoid slamming into the counter tops?

It's alright to automate a fair bit when platforming challenges aren't the focus, but AC's "hold button to awesome" shtick gets old in record time.

Probably is. Normies like it when you have to press just one button and an animation happens. I still remember back when Assassin's Creed trailers came out. I always played platformers or action fighters(ala DMC) and I was wondering "woah how many buttons do you have to press to do all that jumping and fighting and cool animations" when I got the game and realized that you just have to press the "free running" button. I just dropped it, it was stupidly easy, I would just make guards try to chase and even make it easy for them to catch me, but no. Free running button and bye. Even the fucking fighting mechanics were ass. Just press one button to hit stuff, and then a counter button. Blocking didn't hurt you or unbalance you, it just automatically parried. Meanwhile God Of War had a block a parry a counter and a Dodge you had to time. This shit had an auto-parry and a perfect counter every single time. I hated it. But then again this is where the futures headed, and I expect Spider-Man to be just as easy if not worse, for the sake of "cinematics".

>I was wondering "woah how many buttons do you have to press to do all that jumping and fighting and cool animations" when I got the game and realized that you just have to press the "free running" button.

Now lets be honest, try to break down the movement of the first AC game into different buttons.

How do you even approach that? Most games that had good platforming have 1 single button for jumping and grabbing onto things, while combat becomes a whole different beast.

Now lets see the spiderman webm that OP posted, how the flying fuck would you even try to revamp there with a controller?

You need a jump button because spiderman jumps a lot, you need a dodge button and then you need a punch button alongside a spiderweb button, if you are a sonybro or whatever, you already used X, square, triangle and circle ala Spiderman 2.

Then you have the triggers for web swing, you need a sprint button and thats about it.

How the fuck do you implement something that looks like OP webm that actually looks like a superhero movement without making it feel sluggish jumping all over the damn cafe and trying to break the window?
>>
>>385387517
I once saw someone say they dropped Skyrim on the first puzzle door because they couldn't figure out how to turn over the claw in the inventory.
These days if every single action can;t be done with one button the casuals throw chicken tendies and ragequit.

>>
>>385388798

>>385388158

What fucking game has this type of depth of movement animations were you press more than one button.
>>
>>385389128
Mirrors Edge is the most complex current games have gotten in terms of movement, excluding bugs like bunnyhopping / crouch jumping / etc.
>>
>>385389416
>most complex current games have gotten in terms of movement
QWOP
>>
>>385389416
He said movement animations, anon, not movement mechanics.

Which is like, nothing comes to mind because there's nil examples of modern high-fi platformers that exist without the AC bore patrol scheme. No-one has tried.
>>
>>385388158
You know Anon. I really fucking wish I could answer that. But I don't know enough about game design or know enough to understand that that type of motion and movement is nearly impossible to do with a dynamic input from the user. And you know what, I want them to fucking surprise me and find a way to do it. I could jump off your example and say "oh you could use the same inputs you normally use blah blah" but I can't. The best I can honestly do is, not play something I can't enjoy. But boy do I wish they impress me.
>>
>>385389416
>Mirrors Edge

True, you can do impressive shit in that game when playing it, but that is because that game is gameplay focus is 100% parkour and a very shallow FPS.

How would you go and apply that type of gameplay while retaining the original feel of the webm that OP showed?
>>
>>385389573
What's the difference? Titanfall has wallrunning, double jumps, sliding, crouch jumping, vaulting. Is it different because it's in first person? Uncharted and Sleeping Dogs had you press a button for climbing / getting over obstacles instead of holding it down, is that closer?
>>
>>385388305
Ok now that's just fucking retarded. Those are literally the easiest puzzles around.
>>
>>385389060
>Platinum deservedly cops shit for it and still does.
you almost never hear about it.
>>
>>385389817
Not him but yeah. I was the one complaining about the AC button. And that's basically the entire difference, it's on first person. Sure mechanically it can be amazing, but it will never have that animated depth that we're seeing in OP's webm. Or we don't know if someone can actually pull off Mirror's Edge and Titanfall mechanics into great looking smooth animations
>>
>>385388158
To be kinda fair to AssCreed, the first three games had you press two buttons, but yeah I get what you mean. Hard to answer that, huh?
I kinda wanna answer that, but my answer just kinda makes it worse, kinda reminiscent of this flash game with wires
>>
>>385389986
You're almost never in hack n slash or /cgg/-lite threads, then, because people regularly slam Bayo 1/2 and friends as being near God of War tier for the bullshit they pull.
>>
>>385389723
I know that feel anon, that is why i am asking.

However we both have very narrow mind of how to do it but at the same time a lot of people complaining here want the impossible.

If every action you take takes an different input to do some cool animation of moving though the environment you are going to end up with a clusterfuck of bad moviente mechanics where you will feel that you are playing a rythm game and also the combat would suffer because of it.

In my opinion, the ninja run or parkour run is the lesser evil when it comes down to looking cool while keeping it accesible because people just dont know how to make it with depth and at the same time accessible for everyone.

>>385390075
>the first three games had you press two buttons
That is what i meant with a button for jumping and grabbing onto things, you needed to jump and grab and then run to get momentum, it was not that bad as newer AC where you just press 1 button.
>>
>>385390246
>In my opinion, the ninja run or parkour run is the lesser evil when it comes down to looking cool while keeping it accesible because people just dont know how to make it with depth and at the same time accessible for everyone.

My neet side is yelling "FUCK IT, DON'T MAKE IT ACCESSIBLE FOR ANYONE, DO IT FOR ME". But then I remember that that's what basically killed the action fighter genre, hence why we see a dumbed down God Of War instead of the usual hard as fuck mechanics. You're right anon, I guess having a "push x to awesome" can be dealt with as long as the rest of the game has depth.
>>
>>385390625
Yeah you get it.

I dont get why /v/ doesn't understand that if something is accessible for everyone it cannot have depth at the same time.

I guess that is more of a modern game philosophy were they completely ignore the depth of a mechanic and not go the extra mile to make it have depth and be easy to use.
>>
>>385390625
>"push x to awesome" can be dealt with as long as the rest of the game has depth.

Never going to happen.Once they get away with one shit mechanic they'll just keep doing it. It's why every series eventually dies a villains death, they dumb it down until the entire game is press X to win.
>>
>>385390919
If one thing is for sure, is that traveling around the city is going to be fun, these guys made Infamus, they know how to make traveling fun while not begin a single press X to win.

Spiderman is a whole different beast but i trust they will make it on par with Spiderman 2.
>>
>>385390075
>To be kinda fair to AssCreed, the first three games had you press two buttons
You just held run and A/X, all it changed was you'd run and climb faster but you'd bump into people on the ground. Outside of that there was virtually no difference, they just simplified it to RT/R2 in 3 onward since everyone just ended up crab handing to run around faster 100% of the time.
