>sold 80 million units
>best selling game sold less than 10 million units
does the psp have the worst attach rate of all time?
>>
>>385364170
Nah that was probably due to piracy.
>>
You needed a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories to hack it.
>>
>>385364170
>people seriously paid for psp games

lol
>>
>>385366062
Like half of the "best selling" games actually came bundled with a PSP. I shit you not they must be adding that up to.
>>
>>385364170
Piracy fairly early on in its lifespan. It's why Sony went totally overboard with the Vita and subsequently killed it.
>>
>>385366407
but it's cheaper to get a non bundled psp
>>
>>385366439
and the vita is hacked open now too anyway
>>
>>385366062
Yeah, it's almost like people actually want to support developers.
>>
>>385366501
Yeah, who the fuck buys a core pack with no games, you know that to hack the PSP back then you needed a game with exploit available or another already hacked PSP.
>>
>>385365676
No you didn't, modifying a regular battery would force it into recovery mode letting you flash whatever CFW you wanted
>>
>>385366706
You still needed a magic memory card dumbass.
>>
>>385366789
That's just what you call a regular memory card with the right tools on it, something you could make using a mini USB cable and your PSP as a memory stick reader
>>

>>
>>385366949
I bought Pulp Fiction and Ninja Scroll. Literally the only two UMDs that were ever placed in my PSP.
>>
>>385364170
It's the ultimate emulator device. most, not all, but most PSP games were shit.
>>
>>385367104
this. probably the most overrated handheld of all time with the GBC, people only praised it because its piss easy to mod.
>>
>>385366789
>>385365676
kek I bet you paid someone to flash CFW on your PSP
>>
>>385367104
The GoW games were good
>>
>>385366407
hilariously they count wii sports that WAS bundled as a highest selling game of all time, and tetris as well ( when they realized that minecraft was going to overtake it they combined phones that came with it as "sales" of tetris ), but they DONT include games that came with say, windows.

Oh I see you're retarded and probably 12.

Yes you can hack a 3000 with a pandora. No you can't do it with the 3000s battery. The pandora battery from a 1000 will hack it though which is precisely what everyone did. Don't talk about shit you weren't even alive for.

You literally can put in the pandora battery and the PSP won't launch at all, stop showing your underage.

PSP 2000 (cursed) motherboards and and PSP3000 were limited to hacks based in games usually savegames modified to crash the game or tiff exploits, the PSP 3000 remained unhacked for months, there was a possible exploit for the game GripShift that never amount to anything but people buying expensive copies of the game, it eventyually was hacked in firmware 5.03 using a tiff exploit.
>>
>>385368620
>PSP 2000 (cursed) motherboards and and PSP3000 were limited to hacks based in games
Wrong. I sat and watched my 3000 being hacked with a pandora battery. There has never once been a game in my 3000.

I always say that if it had been also a phone, it would have outsold the DS (it sold better, right?) and probably killed the iPhone before it was born.

I need a gaming phone in my life, i have no reason to buy a portable console, but add to it a phone, and i would make the line to buy it right now. Yes, i know that smartphones play games, but only shit ones and emulators, i mean real new games.

Nokia was ahead of it's time.
>>
>>385368848
lmao you probably got tricked, it is literally impossible, retard.
firmware 5.50 requiered a copy of medal of honor and you ahd to kill yourself in-game
firmware 6.20 was easier as just a copy of the patapon 2 demo(which came insatlled in all PSP Go launch models) was need.
Go ahead pretend to be retarded but you can't contradict what it is know by the hacking scene.
>>
>>385364170

>>
>>385364170
i'm thinking about getting one for bedside emulation purposes, but not sure if it'll do better than ds4+clip+ppsspp and whatever emulators else i have on my android. Well, psp wouldn't need psp emulator, that's a plus, also it's always better to have purpose-specific device than just a smartphone.
>>
>>385369273
Tell your friend to get a high stamina battery, that's what I did when I sacrificed mine to make a Pandora battery

After that I could switch the new battery between Pandora and normal modes with my CFW, charged people like 2 bucks to hack their PSPs, just until I broke even. Some guys tried to disrupt my monopoly and just ended up blue screening some PSPs which just cemented my place in the market

I'd get one, they're dirt cheap and it's a lot less clunky than some phone clipped to a controller
You can get a micro SD to memory stick adapter for like $1.50
>>
>>385364170
Day one piracy. Sony cared so little for this thing that they actually forgot to implement copy protection in the 1.0 firmware, thus ensuring the pirates would always be one step ahead of them.
>>
>>385369720
If you're buying an adaptor, might as well go for the double micro sd to memory stick pro duo adaptor.
>>
>>385369720
>You can get a micro SD to memory stick adapter for like $1.50
That sounds amazing. Are speeds acceptable? Is it even active adapter, or just passive one that makes no difference at all in device card handling?
>>

You could but those work in RAID 0 and if 1 card dies they both get wiped

>>
>>385369850
It's a passive adapter, speeds are limited to whatever the fuck the PSP can read at which isn't very fast at all. Still faster than a UMD
Just copy the games and stuff to the SD card through a proper card reader and not a PSP, otherwise you'll be waiting for a while
>>
>>385369576
He doesn't want one anyway, he likes the charging case and only uses the thing to play crisis core once or twice a year. If he wanted a new battery he would have bought one at some point. Even before we broke his battery he always played it in that thing.

At launch I have no idea. Probably didn't think having 2 nubs would make anyone happy since they weren't the most precise.
Post launch they said in interviews about Socom Fireteam bravo 2 or 3 that they didn't want to because it'd fracture the install base and piss off people that bought earlier PSP models.

Then they rectified the issue with the Vita, but then nobody bought it anyway.

That's what happens when a console doesn't try to have a monopoly on its' own platform and has more games than just one Zelda and one Splatoon.

Also 10 million in the past was impressive. If you think any console today is having good sales, go look at the phone market. Apps and games make far more money than any video game.

>>385364170
Im going to go against the grain and say it's not piracy. The PSP and PS3 both had terrible marketing in the West that wasnt never corrected int he former's case. For almost 3 years, the PSP was marketed at Chad and Stacy and black youth as a multimedia device. These people have no interest in gaming outside of GTA or CoD, let alone your typical JRPGs and platformers indemic to handheld gaming. Sony blames 'piracy', but the reality is the system had no games worth buying for almost 3 years from its release in 2004. By the time they started releasing stuff like Peace Walker, most units in the West were already dust collectors. If you lose more than a quarter of your potential market, then you're never going to make good numbers.
>>
>>385373984
I might be mixing it up with something else but my friend who modded my psp I think I remember him saying it was as easy as unscrewing it and unplugging a couple ribbon cables. But you need really tiny screwdrivers as I remember.

You and I are the demographic the system was actually meant for and ironically the ones who would hack the systems the quickest. That doesnt change the fact the early marketing campaigns werent aimed at a typically non-gaming demographic. Pirating was easy for sure, but its absurd to believe more than 10% of systems were ever modified with custom firmware.

Give it a couple more years and Vita may actually become a PS2 emulation platform, mark my fucking words.

>Vita Slim it has 2 extra gbs of internal memory hidden

probably for system updates but fug
>>
>>385376240
Throw an sd card in it then. I would literally suck a dick for 16 gigs internal on my vita.
>>
>>385364170
how did you get these numbers faggot
>>
>>385376240
EBOOTs are compressed to minimize redundant data, FF7 is about 1.3 gigs, MGS takes 700 megs (1 CD).
>>
>>385376486
Pretty sure the PSP Go didn't have expandable storage
>>
>>385376201
no

i'm not calling pcsx2 devs fully competent people who wrote the code for modern multi core standards, but ps2 simply can't be that easy to emulate. Even official ps2 emulator in ps3 was laggy in some titles (fat had hardware ps2 emu at first, then software emu in later versions, then they dropped it entirely).
>>
>>385376467
It's only 1 that you can use and if you put a card in it, get this; Sony locks off that 1 gig so you can't use it. Not even bullshitting, that's the level of Jewry we're talking here.
>>
>>385366706
I didn't need to do any hardware changes. I literally just had to open a file that put the PSP into safe mode, and then I could install the CFW.
>>
>>385374670
>>385376170
Another go-bro out here too. Although I'm one of the ones that shelled out for a 16GB M2 for the extra storage. Really haven't played any of anything on anything as of late, however.

>i use with an external sd inside
What did you mean by this?
>>
>>385376573
How much can you compress CGI cutscenes without recoding them?
>>
>>385376601
It does you just need a funny format. It's a different format from the other PSPs because
>the city of sony
>>
>>385376601
It does, just with the super-proprietary Memory Duo M2 card -- similar in size to the Vita's card.

Did Sony make more money from the PSP or the PS Vita?

Oh good! Psp talk! I found my day 1 purchased psp1000 and installed CFW on it but I can't figure out for the life of me how to get PSX games to work on it.

Did Sony make any money from PS Vita?
>>
>>385377170
PSP easily, the Vita only sold like 15 million units and was more or less a commercial failure

The damn things was just too expensive to make games for and people weren't interested in $60 portable games if devs wanted to justify the costs
So you were left with weeb trash VNs that could run on a potato
>>
>>385377254
You'll need a program that converts PSX files into an eboot.
>>
>>385377170
>have to ask this question
nigga pls
>>
>>385377170
they sold the psp at a loss while the opposite is true for the vita. i wouldnt be surprised if they made more money off the vita.
>>
>>385377106
Can you even put CFW on a Vita? I've only owned mine a couple months, picked up five physical games, and have all my free ones from ps+, so I haven't had much cause to look into the mod seen for it yet. I had thought there functionally was none.

I even have legitimate evidence to support this, the problem is that we don't know if the homebrew scene will actually kick off, or if people will actually care to reverse engineer the embedded MIPS chip that runs PSP and PS1 eboots (PS2 also ran on MIPS), and write software for it so that it can speak to the main ARM CPU thus providing a perfect environment for PS2 emulation.

MIPS chip takes care of EE (same base architecture), ARM does GS through bruteforcing. Boom, PS2 in an handheld.

PS3 had 'some' trouble because it had to emulate BOTH EE/IOP and GS, using the fucking Cell (nightmare fuel) and it did a pretty good job.

Early PAL PS3 only had the GS and they still ran bad. If the core software is good, it's definitely feasible.

>>385376761
The point is that the CGI movies are the only thing that actually takes space, game data, being the same in every disk, is divided by 3.
>>
Why does Sony hate their handhelds so much bros?

>tfw we'll never get a psp2 or vita2
Feels bad man
>>
>>385377913
>>385376761
It's a Square Enix problem. Nier Automata was 50GB and half of that was fucking cutscenes
>>
>>385377935
lets be real, most of the first party games suck. they try and be like their console counterpart but they end up being watered down as fuck. games like killzone liberation are an exception tho
>>
>>385378138
I don't necessarily agree with that. A lot of the titles on vita were great before Sony abandoned it.
>>
PSP had the best Metal Gear out of them all peace walker
>>
>>385379248
I have it on PS3 in one of those MGS collections. Is it really that good? I'm not really a huge MG fan.
>>
>>385364170
A lot of normies bought it to watch movies and shit
>>
>>385379691
god no. it's not bad, but it's the worst metal gear. i guess it would be amazing game for PSP, since at psp release handheld consoles were still considered vastly inferior compared to normal ones and games for it were simplified
>>
>>385379691
Yes definitely play it, it's of course a lot easier on the PS3 controller but it moves so fast with it's short missions and it has a really good stand alone story not bogged down with the convoluted MGS lore.
>>
>>385379983
>it's the worst metal gear

Sorry but thats MGS4

open it up and try to fix it. psp analog was modular, if it can't be cleaned you'll just replace it for $2
>>
>>385380354
It's like bad fan fiction you mean. Awful cringey story with every character being trotted out from nowhere and the

gameplay has one segment of sneaking

two on rails shooting segments

two trailing segments

the rest was just a bad third person shooter

It was a shockingly bad game, the music was pretty fucking god tier though

This shit is a bitch to exchange parts for, especially the monitor. Guys do yourself a favor and get a 3000 if you're not emulating a PSP.
