Almost finished with RE5, my first RE game. It's pretty

in terms of that "classic feeling" that fans want, it does not rank high, but in my opinion in very fun to play, I rank the games as follows:
1- code veronica
2- 4
3- 5
4- 3
5- 6
6- revelations
never played the others for much long (I have all of them tho)

RE5 is a great game but not a good Resident Evil game. Resident Evil was good tense horror, and this is more of a balls out action bang bang game. It's great fun with a friend, but again, it's not like classic RE (or even the newest RE for that matter)

Completing a campaign unlocks one of 3 maps. Pretty sure DLC maps are unlocked from the beginning.

depends on what you want. 5's style is quite a bit different from 1, 2, 3, 0 and CV. 4 you could probably go back to provided you expect some mechanical regression (the game itself is better). 6 is kind of a mess of a game, but ok fun in coop. the revelation games you might like pretty well too and are more inline with 5.

the older games are much more slower paced and focus more on other gameplay aspects. they are more adventure games in many ways than action (tho there is still a good amount of action). if you want more survival aspects and a bigger emphasis on area progression, puzzles and inventory management then they are better games for that.

as far as where 5 ranks id say its pretty high in coop just through pure fun factor, but as far as its design and content itself id say its a middle ground.

Keeping a combo going can be pretty tough. You have to memorize each map and make a plan for getting each timer, then there are the enemy variants - which are more drastic in 6. Just in the China map, you have: normal zombies, zombie dogs, police and firefighter zombies, military zombies, bloodshots, acid-spitting zombies, whoppers, and the secret boss. Most have different strategies to killing them.

To add to this, you also have to know where enemies will spawn to keep the combo up. In China, you have to know that at about 50 kills, you need to go upstairs and take out those guys as it takes too long for zombies to spawn downstairs before the combo dies

If you liked 5, go for 4 which is the foundation of what you just played but with *slightly* more focus on item management and less streamlined maps. Leon is also throwing zingers everywhere.

I have to recommend 6 purely on the merit of its gameplay, it's one of the most mechanically satisfying TPS out there although the game itself is something of a turd sandwich. Best Mercenaries mode as a result, though. Jake and Sherry are best couple.

If you're into slower paced survival horror, you should give the originals a try. The remake of the original is still my favorite game in the series.

Really, you should try everything the series has to offer, it's pretty old and it experimented a lot with its design so there's split fanbases who love one approach and hate the other. I don't think there's any game in the series that could be described as bad and there's a huge cast of likeable cuties and 90s action heroes, it's pretty great all around.

Maybe its because I'm not an action guy but i honestly thought RE7 was close to being on the same level as the classic REs
It had everything I loved about the old games tight level design top notch atmosphere fun survival gameplay, really awesome bosses (besides the last one) and legit horror
The only thing missing for me was more monsters and a good final boss.

All Resident Evil games (with the exception of ORC and UC) are technically good games, it's just that some are weaker than others.
RE1-3, REmake and to an extent CV are the pinnacle of RE, the top 5 of the series.
RE0 and the Gun Survivor games are experimental, but fun RE games.
RE4-6 and REv1 and 2 are the mediocre games of the series, but as action shooters with horror elements, they're the best there is to offer.
REVII is the lowest of the low of RE games, but it's probably the best nu-horror game in existence, which isn't saying much as its competition is Outlast and Amnesia
