I can answer this. Eddie is Zato's familiar but after GGX Zato was dead so playing as Zato was actually playing as Eddie using Zato's corpse like a puppet. As far as Millia and Zato's relationship goes, it's given detail in the Drama CD Night of Knives, but basically it was a very turbulent, toxic relationship. The two had this on again, off again kind of thing while being terrible to each other on a daily basis. An incident where they were hired to kill an infant so his younger brother (who's still in the womb) could be the king of a small Eastern European nation when he would be born (This is Lord Mining). Zato actually did it and killed the infant which freaked Millia the fuck out because on top of not wanting to be an assassin (attempted suicide multiple times to get out of it), she was forced to give up her ability to bear children for her hair powers (like Zato gave up his sight for the shadow powers). The last straw was when Zato tried to explain it as "if we don't do horrible things as assassins they'll kill us so I did this to protect you."

The entire Drama CD is basically Slayer's backstory when founding the guild. It can be summed up as "Slayer tries to understand the concept of morality, and fails spectacularly."

It's a while back since I played the Revelator story, but aren't they mostly okay now? I know Millia is back in the guild, but I forgot what happened to Zato.

Couple of questions for someone who hasnt played Guilty Gear since XXReloaded or whatever.

Are the older guilty gears worth picking up on the cheap for story mode and cool graphics and music or are they barebonesy and is the newest one all i need?

I was going to pick it up on PS4 but see that PS3 versions exists with free online. Anyone recommend doing that?

Millia actually left the guild. Zato died because she aided in his capture, which is how she gained immunity from being executed as an assassin.

Zato being alive again as a conclave experiment didn't fully revive him, he came back without emotions, although he still has hints of his feelings for Millia. This is naturally really uncomfortable because Millia, who's helping Venom investigate the conclave after a few years of civilian life, is basically seeing her ex from a toxic relationship who was dead set on killing her, as a calm emotionless shell.

Revelator ends with Millia admiting that even though it's all she ever wanted (considering she was an assassin because the guild kidnapped orphaned children and forced them to be assassins, and Millia had too much natural talent to let die), she just can't escape her past and will never be able to escape the trauma she endured. The Assassins Guild becomes a legit soldier organization when Slayer goes over Ky's head to Daryl. Millia accepting that what happened is what happened, wants to build her future without hiding from her past, and becomes the leader of a new, legit assassins guild.

I'm not sure if the multiplayer works on a pirated version, but if it does why not refund and pirate for a while and see if you really want to invest the time, and then rebuy if you truly enjoy it? I'd also suggest a fightstick or decent pad if you don't have one already. It makes sense then. The one thing I hear people complain about the most after changing to stick for the first time is dashes and instant air dashes. From what you said it sounds like you could do IADs fine on keyboard. I'm just a filthy pad player myself, but I assume you just have to grind it out with a stick until you can do it consistently. you can get far by focusing on fishing for 5h, and farslash, when you are really far away you have both of your sonic booms to help you advance into range.

basic combo would be 2p 5k close slash 5h into rekkas.

get comfortable with your buttons in backturn, P and K almost always start your string since you will generally be in throw range and they are throw invulnerable, then you want to mix up K and H for a high low mixup and spook people trying to press buttons with frametraps with S. confirm your backturn hits into S and then rekkas and do it again by either doing berserker slash to cross them up and go into stance, or press and hold 5H to go into stance. press dust to parry dps, bursts, stray buttons, their mother, their projectiles, deadangles, them mashing buttons everything except for throws, but make sure you have the read since you can be punished for pressing it at all.

thats the basics of how to play leo decently.

also backturn P is an anti air incase you ever are in stance in neutral and someone jumps on you.

Getting into the game bit by bit and eventually want to take it to EVO on steam).

I took a like to Leos look and personality and his gameplay isn't too bad either, but I've been looking at other characters as well.

Axl and Answer specifically. Axl seems like a solid zoner, however his angles and movement seem to, at first glance, be extremely match reliant. In this he seems quite limited. Is he worth learning at all?

The next character Answer seems pretty damn fun to play if not far more complex than the other two. I have no clue what I'm doing or what his ninja info cards really do. Is he worth exploring?

Any protips on these characters would be appreciated. This is my first ArcSys game and the first game I'm going to try and take seriously.

Previous experience with Bloody Roar, Skullgirls, Street Fighter and Marvel as far as most experience goes (over 50 hours minimum each with Bloody Roar probably around 300).

Previous relevant "mains" include: Dormammu, Chris, Wesker, Hawkeye, Felicia, Juri, Rose, Ms. Fortune, Robo Fortune, Beowulf, Eliza

its a 6f low that is +1 on block and naturally frametraps with the gatlings available to her, that in of itself is strong, the fact that once you block her pressure she transitions into a fairly strong throw/frametrap game that she can pepper with highs that lead into a very strong confirm with 50% and her neutral, while not amazing, gives her reward thats some of the best in the game for succeeding.

2k2h is also just another way to confirm her mixup, its a 6f low she can pepper where 5h should be that leads to hella, its a 6f punish button that leads to hella.

keep in mind all characters are worth learning, none of them are extremely weak to not be worth learning.

with that in mind, axl is less of a zoner, and more of a "guy who walks you into the corner with his great buttons checking you" hes really good at offensively limiting the other guys movement.

leo is kind of the opposite in that he wants to get in and stay in, and answer is kind of a middle ground in that hes based around having a strong set of neutral tools but after he gets a good hit he can confirm into a fairly good mixup with good reward, but can comfortably go back to neutral.

The balance in the game is pretty tight, if you learn any character well you have a fair chance at beating any other. Of course some characters are going to take more work than others though. From easiest to hardest, I would say Leo->Axl->Answer. That's also the order of most popular to least out of those 3. You can succeed with all 3, so it just depends on what you want. Want to unga unga press buttons? Pick Leo. Want to zone people into a corner? Axl. Want to confuse the hell out of people? Pick Answer.

Thanks for clarifying; I was getting the impression that a lot of the characters were pretty decently balanced in the game aside from Raven and the giant sword girl who seem a bit over powered and the grappler who seems pretty underpowered, but I'm probably just too fresh in the game to realize nuances.

I'll keep toying with all three then to figure out which I like best and check out some videos too. Right now I like Leo a bit more since, again, I love his look and personality and he's pretty simple to use so far. I can see him having a lot of trouble getting in, while Axl I can see him having a hard time once someone finally does close the gap. Answer will be the toughest to try and get a handle on it seems, but once I figure out what the cards/ seals do that should help since they seem like a major part of his strategy.

For the first time in a while I'm actually having a hard time picking a character to stick with. All of them are pretty damn cool in their own way and if balance really is that good, it's going to be even tougher.

I do hope they add a trap type character eventually (not the Bridget kind). Setting mines and orbs with Rocket, Chris, and Strange in Marvel was a blast.

A lot of fundamentals carry over, but you're still not going to be able to play a sub as well as someone you put most of your time into.
I once played a guy that I could beat with both my subs so I just picked a new character (Ky) and just tried to learn him on the fly lol. The matches became a lot more even that way.

When most characters knock you down, you want to block low when you wakeup since overheads aren't as common as lows. Against Raven's flying you want to block high and switch to low when he lands since his low route leads to way less damage.

I played to actually learn some fighting game about a year or so prior to xrd, but never dabbled online for some real experience, just offline with another determined friend.
After picking up xrd and giving my ass away free for a month online, I ran into this Sol player I would get near perfected consistently against before, and ended up winning just a few and getting much closer otherwise where even he acnowledged that I got much better and learned some shit.

Just play regularly when you are learning, and make an effort to figure out situations you don't understand. Asking the guy who effortlessly kicks your ass a question helped me on more than a few occasions.

It's the kinda' thing that to appreciate you need to spend a lot of time playing.
You might enjoy how some of the characters have changed. I feel like the game might have mode selection that let's you play in previous patches of the game.
The story is barren though, there are no cutscenes, just stills with a couple lines of dialogue ending usually ending with a "let's fight!"
I actually appreciate the minimalism of the older stories compared to the crazy anime odessey of the new ones. They definitely have this shitty lofi charm.

I can do everything Omito does without issue (albeit less consistently), except for his corner tk s.Mistfiner to Mist-cancel Treasure Hunt. He and Kaninchu are the only two players I've seen do it.
It was actually weird to see Omito play so reserved, defensive, and careful... He's normally much flashier and careless.

Do the nerves go away eventually? Just got done playing friends and even though I can hit some decent combos and beat the CPUs, when I fight an actual player all my training just goes out the window and my hands go to mush mode. I just start dropping all my combos and forget even basic shit I'd practiced.
