Photorealistic is always better. For one, darker storiesm, settings, and characters work best with photorealism. FFXV had a very dark and fucked up story and setting, and the photorealism really got it across. And I don't know why ?! It's a great game but it's 50% a social simulator. I really wish Atlus goes back to console versions of MegaTen and DDS.

On the other hand, FF XV was stripped down of a ton of things that were in trailers we saw over the years but most people don't give a fuck. FF games outside of XII were never anything special as far as RPG mechanics go, they have always been very basic games. XII and XV are the only ones that were really proficient as RPGs.

There are some people out there tha doesn't like realism. I'm in their ranks. I would prefer any FF9 style over your crappy realistic shit. Cause you know. Realism is all around you. I dont say that realism in 3D cartoons suck - cause there are plenty of really nice cartoons there from pixar/didneyworl, but I was raised on such games with such style so it's in my blood.
Also. Such style isn't really hard to develop. You literally need 3D model, Texture and Animation with basic shader. For FF15 like game you need good shaders, good material editor, perfect light and powerful engine.
