All 6 of them. 10/10 all-time classic masterpieces, every single one of them. THE best 3D wrestling games ever made to this day. Virtual Pro Wrestling is underrated as fuck, maybe the most underrated games ever.

The last one I cut was Bloodborne, in favor of Wolf 3-D. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I'd pick Wolf over BB if I made the list over. It was a tossup between the 2. Those are my top 10 either way. My top 12 would have had Dark Souls and Breath of the Wild, so I'd guess we have very similar taste.

Fuckin' solid my dude. No big surprises though.

For metroidvanias maybe try Aria of sorrow and its derivatives if you haven't already, I thought they stack up really well to SotN. In terms of RPGs you might like Dragon's Dogma and Tactics Ogre: LUCT on psp. Onimusha has a feel you might appreciate.

>>385269865
Also pretty /v/ core.

I haven't spent much time with Bioshock but 1 and 2 are solid single player shooters in the vein of half life. Same goes for E.Y.E. and that goes on deep sales all the time. EYE is weird as fuck but it might work for you. Okami is a great honorary Zelda game if you haven't played it yet. Darksiders, 1 in particular can also scratch that itch.

>>385269319
Again, nothing new here.

I'm curious why you picked sands of time over the later PoP games, though. I found the combat kind of stiff for how frequent it was. On the other hand I'm glad to see Persona 3 on there instead of the others, 4 never grabbed me the way it did. I still have to finish 2.

>>385269120
It's hard to recommend stuff to old PC game lovers because of how much those games were a product of their time. They just don't make 'em like they used to. Pardon the assumption, but you seem pretty set in your ways if nothing since Dark Souls has made an impression on you. Maybe the Shadowrun or KOTOR games? The Witcher 1 is janky and weird enough to be mistaken for an older game.

Surprised to see Curse of darkness out of all the options for Castlevania. Good stuff. in that vein of early PS2 ARPGs you'd probably like the Dark Cloud games, 1 in particular. 1 is more challenging, darker and has an old school anime sort of look to it, while 2 is colorful, more streamlined and way more polished.

Other than that you seem like you'd dig most of what /v/ leans toward.

Have an album. https://youtu.be/_eAbrnkVKy4

>>385276218
I have literally never seen dirty bomb mentioned anywhere, ever. I have a bias against online multiplayer so I won't comment, but it's cool to see something different.

Otherwise you've got a pretty wide variety. Good stuff. Racing, beat em up, character action, souls, shooter, and fucking farm sim. I played friends of mineral town before deciding to go in on Stardew Valley, completed SV twice. The perfect podcast game. Battlefield 2142 got rereleased for free and works great if you're looking for something somewhat active to replace battlefront. Total shot in the dark, you don't seem like a big story guy but if you're looking to try a point and click Primordia is one of the good ones. also check out No More Heroes if you haven't yet. Well paced and satisfying, like most of what's on here.

You get an album too, but you're harder to pin down. Try this one. https://youtu.be/t8E_PEFQCCM

Honestly most Zelda games overlap enough that you can pick based on art style. The 3d entries are all polished enough that you can be confident they won't piss you off or waste much time no matter which one you pick. Based on your choices though I'd say Link to the Past would hold up well for you.

I don't know much about strategy games but I enjoyed my time with the first Endless Space. You might. It's got an alright sense of subtle humor too. Maybe try Trails in the Sky if you want another lighthearted RPG.

No idea what music to give you so you get Gorillaz. https://youtu.be/rKo2u01yyGM

One of these things is not like the others.

SMTIV could work for you based on how many JRPGs and mentions of persona I see on here. If you can stomach something old try the Suikoden and Breath of Fire series. It's not that well liked but I have a soft spot for Suikoden IV on PS2. Breath of Fire III and IV probably won't be lost on you either, I think.

Have something different. Japanese but all instrumental, very drum-heavy. This version is slowed down for some reason though, I'd recommend the normal cut. https://youtu.be/CvFCtHtQ4fA

I have Suikuden 1 and 2 but just haven't had the time to play those either. Eager to try out Breath of Fire too since I've heard such good things. Only major bummer I had going back was FF6.

I also like western games too just not as much as weeb ones I guess. Thanks for a reply anon. Trying to keep it alive

I feel the same way about western games. There are certain genres I dabble in that Japan just doesn't really do, like crime and strategy games but every busted, buggy, or otherwise poorly crafted game I've played has come from the west and I don't trust them to sell me functioning RPGs anymore. That and western games never really surprise me when I take a chance on them.

SMTIV has some quality of life features that reduce unnecessary frustration like I felt when trying Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga. Don't know enough to compare it to Strange Journey.

Took me a second to remember what Espgaluda was. Other than that and Tactics I admit I recognize none of this.

Give Ikaruga a shot, and maybe look at la-mulana. The psx Strider games too.

Okami for me is a mark of craftsmanship and consistent game design. It's an action adventure game built around a single core mechanic, built around its aesthetic. It never deviates from its general tone or look, and it builds everything around the core mechanic so you don't feel like you're making compromises between form and function. It's long but well paced and lighthearted enough on the whole that you can take it as it comes. It doesn't completely shift direction at any point, and there are no stretches of the game that betray what you liked at the start (e.g. hunting for triforce pieces). It has a small set of things it wants to do, and consistently delivers on those specific goals without stumbling over itself by trying to surprise you with something you don't want. I'm not being very clear but I admire its honesty, in summary.

You seem like a bit of a grouch so you get Future Sound of London. https://youtu.be/Bcsdkk_ON1c

Yeah I have Ika on DC, I like it OK enough and I find it much better than Silvergun. I find strict chaining mechanics very irritating but at least Ika doesn't tie it to weapon power like RSG does. Platformers don't really do much for me at all, pretty much in parallel to why I don't enjoy chaining mechanics in shooters; all you're trying to do is find the One True Path which the designers put in place.

Have you considered that developing for handhelds is way cheaper and can lead to fundamentally different ways as to how a game is controlled and played? A game like Etrian Odyssey would absolutely not work on any other platform that a DS/3DS.
>>
>>385286586
>Have you considered that developing for handhelds is way cheaper
Well of course it is, why else would developers and companies be all too happy to oblige a non discerning customer base in making them? They can spend much less money and effort in making a game, and the same number of people eat it up regardless. That's a win-win for them.
>and can lead to fundamentally different ways as to how a game is controlled and played?
Sure, but for whose benefit?
>A game like Etrian Odyssey would absolutely not work on any other platform that a DS/3DS.
That's too bad. I'm sure they could figure something out if they wanted to, but going back to the statement made earlier, why bother. Meanwhile I have a few thousand other games I'd rather play instead, and there's only so much free time I can allocate for it.

IIDX Sinobuz came out earlier this year. The Darius series is not obscure to anyone who plays shooters beyond Treasure's offerings. I've played Nethack since 1995 on UNIX terminals at high school, so my interest in it didn't originate on the purpose of it being retroshit. FFT I enjoy for its presentation and variety in how characters can be played, I really don't care about the story in it or any video game much at all.

Not sure what genre of gameplay you're looking for so I'll throw them all out there.

The Legend of Grimrock is a very pure first person grid-based one that might get you off if you're okay with emphasis being on puzzles over combat, all real-time. Pillars of eternity gave me what I wanted in terms of exploring dungeons for loot too, plays like a standard DnD strategy game. The Dark Cloud games are built around light, simple, Dark Souls-ish action combat in randomly generated dungeons. The first has 6 playable characters that you control independently, the second has two. The Shadowrun pc games work for exploring corporate dungeons as a turn based group from an isometric view, and are very replayable. Final fantasy XII also has this in spades, takes a slower, stop-and-start pace similar to older CRPGs and MMOs.

Pillars was directly competing with classic RPGs from 1998, of course /v/ was wary of it. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, and it's one of the few games I've played that really goes out of its way to reward your unit positioning, timing and tactics. Whether you'll be bothered by how they handle some of the finer details will depend on if you played and enjoyed Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale or Planescape. Otherwise don't worry. I recommend playing a druid, they're tons of fun and versatile right from the start.

That's a lot of FPS games. I've mentioned it already but Battlefield 2142 got relaunched for free recently and it is just dandy.
>>
>>385289792
Giant technological leaps have come to other platforms as well. Handhelds were the lowest common denominator then, and they are now, and they always will be. Today, the issue is that most tech is too expensive to fully utilize, at least such that there isn't a direct benefit to doing so when most people don't care.
>salty

Nothing wrong with having a favorite genre. I just think there's a lot to explore and I wouldn't want to miss a chance to discover something I didn't know I wanted. I don't write off genres with music either, that's part of why I was throwing random albums at people earlier.

AA, perhaps the best of the three in the OG trilogy, but only by a small margin.

Less talked about thing about DMC 3 is the castle Tenem ni gru. Almost felt like a Castlevania castle, just without elegant rooms.

SP of Titanfall 2 is one of the best this decade. I've never felt the sense of comradery like I did with BT.

Sudoku

No joke, Shadow of the Colossus changed my life. After I defeated the the 16th colossus, teared for the first time in a video game.

Played Rez on pcsx2 on 2x internal resolution and it was unlike anything else. Area 5, holy shit!

AoE II made me love isometric styled games and RTSs.

Okami is the second game that sort of changed my life. The way it presented the concept of "faith" is something most games can never even achieve. Also, the comedy is also on point.

Yet to finish, but Trails in the Sky had me hooked in an way no JRPG had me, and this was after playing hundreds of them in the SNES/Playstation library.

Yeah, I read that there were two translations and they were very different from each other. Many argued that they weren't able to grasp it's poetic parts.
But at the very least, I wanted to just give it a try regardless, but it's a pain to run on anything above Windows XP.

Well for starters the art style is amazing. I love the sort of Mexican day of the dead motif (which is part of why Grim Fandango is up there as well). The combat was also REALLY satisfying. Bonus points for replayability as well. Beat the game 4 times. Beat on Normal and Hard with the original game and Super Turbo edition. If a game can keep me playing for more than one playthrough, let alone 4, I usually consider it one of my favorites.

Catherine and Ghost Trick are fucking amazing, don't get me wrong. But something with Guacamelee just clicks with me.

I grew up in Taiwan, and was able to nibble on some amazing ching chong classics by the local studios, a couple that I really liked:

>Tuntown
You play as a boy who has the ability to communicate with animals. You visit your hometown to find that it's been overrun with feral cats, therefore you and your childhood friend aim to solve the cat problem by banding all of the local dogs in a gang-war fashion to retake your home.

The game itself is a simple rpg and nothing to write home about, but behind its cartoony interface is a rich plot full of character interactions, social themes, and other mature metaphors.

I love this game because it carries a lot of heart and originality - something that would have never flied today.

Another one I liked is the Xuan-Yuan Sword series.

Each of its episodes it takes place in a period of real-life history and has a heavy historical flair. The game I posted (XuanYuan 2) takes place in ~400BC China, you are a Confucianism philosopjer trying to prevent a war between two neighboring barons.

There is a *huge* amount of details placed in historical accuracy and traditional chinese shown by many of the side NPC dialogues. In the first area you can find a guy trying to marry some woman in his town, and if you shake him down enough he will explain the exact match-making process that takes place in 400BC China. There's no in-game reason to learn any of that from him but it's there, and I love it.

That game also introduced a fancy alchemy system. You can capture any monster on the field and 'merge' them in some strange Taoist ritual to create new items/summons.

What games are those on top right, middle left, and bottom right? They look interesting.

Bottom Right looks like Odin Sphere
>>

>>385299570
Bottom right is Odin Sphere. Specifically the Leifthrasir version. The top right is Espgaluda, middle left is Radiant Silvergun.

I fucking guarantee you his 3x3 will include STALKER, Dorf Fort, one of the few Castlevania games he approves of, Demon's and/or Dark Souls, FF4 and/or FF6, and Kirby Super Star. I'm not even saying those are bad games by any means, but it's the most risk-free, "pls no bulli" /v/ cred generic 3x3 out there.

XL has all the X DLC, which made it far less of a pain in the ass.
>>
>>385300021
No prob, m8. Galuda and Silvergun are fucking fantastic, and can definitely be emulated at this point. Have fun.

Some handheld games are legit though and can't be found elsewhere. They're also irreplaceable for trips.

thats ok i guess
did they make it easier to get the skins in the krypt though?
i remember when it came out you would play a match and get like 10 coins and it took like 400 or something to break just one statue in the krypt.
but of course there was always the "spend 20 dollars to unlock everything in the krypt!" option. and that pisses me off that they would skew the game to influence you to just pay money.
other than that i really liked the krypt idea

The only things 2 has over 1 are greater stealth focus and no magic shit.

Honestly, I don't care about the former, and I don't mind the latter. The magic stuff was preferable to the robots from 2.

There's still some bullshit, but at least the original DLC isn't an issue. Though they added some minor, largely ignorable new DLC.

The only game on my 3X3 which could fall into this list would be Sakura Wars 2 for being overly weeaboo (which I don't think it is in the same way that Neptunia and its ilk is, nor is it a standard traditional JRPG), yet so many people say my 3X3 sucks and call me autistic as fuck, as evidenced above. What gives?
