The only time you see Smite & Paladins close to overwatch are when they're doing competition like dreamhack recently, where Paladin successfully got more viewer than overwatch for days.

There's a difference between competitive and esport. Rock-paper-sciccor is a competitive game, guess who is a competitive game, etc. But does this make them into good professionally competitive games worthy of being played for thousands if not millions of dollars on TV? Absolutely not.

Overwatch wasn't designed from a tonal or gameplay standpoint as a competitive esport game. In fact that wasn't how they marketed the game at all, nor do many design implementations make sense from an esport perspective (since it's designed with casual play and players in mind).

Now you can be delusional and think that the game was designed from the ground up to be an esport game and that ActivisionBlizzard didn't (and still doesn't) force esports, because it doesn't change the reality of the situation.

I quite like overwatch, but the problem with the game is the dogshit balance between the heroes. Less than half the cast are even considered "viable" in competitive, the rest are memepicks or one trick pony's. The whole "counterpicking" thing that was touted has failed miserably.

You see the same 3 heroes in every game, and the other 3 are the same every other game. D.va, Winston, Genji/Tracer/Soldier + Mercy to ruin everyone's fun.

It changes a bit depending on what level you play at. Around diamond/masters you start to see Ana being played in place of Mercy, and at the pro level you start to see a bit of Widowmaker and Sombra, but the game is still mirror matchups most of the time.

The main problem with overwatch right now is their crappy balancing. Like a bunch of retards they are trying to make it both competitive and casual so they listen equally to both pros and average joes. If your going for a middle ground you either make it casually competitive like siege, balancing it more around being competitive, with the average person actually having to sit down and learn stuff in order to play but the pay off being lots of room for growth or making a game competitively casual and balancing it for the majority, like cod, with the average person being able to pick it up and play right away but the skill ceiling is kinda low overall. Overwatch tried both and now it made it so it's hard to actually just pick up since half the roster is useless but the game being mechanically simple enough that it it's real easy for the player to start nearing the limit on how good you can actually get

The game had a huge explosion at launch and has been stagnating since. That's normal.
