That game was surprisingly fun. I played it with a buddy and we actually did the entire game and all the optional co-op maps together. Got to like level 75-80. I was skeptical because it was a musou but it had a surprising amount of combat and a fun combat system.

When I was a kid, I actually imported Chrono Cross, Saga Frontier 2, Vagrant Story and Legend of Mana. The only one I wasn't able to muscle through to the end was Saga Frontier due to the combat system and stats being unlike anything I've seen before. I had a lot more patience as a kid but I am more concerned about having a lot of the charm and everything lost on me due to not understanding anything.

Then stop thinking about it as playing DQ and start thinking about having fun while practicing the language. Searching kanji without furigana is really really easy if you know radicals and better yet stroke order.

Not to mention a lot of the times an unknown word shows up you'll know something out of it. Like maybe 正義 shows up and you don't know 義 but you know 正, so searching 正* will find 正義 in a heartbeat.

It's a valid experience. You grow a lot from putting yourself out there and taking on projects you are interested enough to run through even if they are a little bit outside of your comfort zone.
