What are some games that have fun npc allies to fight alongside? I'd say Halo, Half-Life, and Stubbs the Zombie are good examples.
Dragon's Dogma
Republic Commando
Earth Defense Force 4.1
SWAT 3

>Halo
hardly, the marines are fucking useless most of the time. It's next to impossible to save the retards in the second mission

Mercenaries
I spent a ton of time just helping allied npcs kill other npcs for no reason just because it was fun nd immersive
Freedom Fighters

If you can't make sure all the marines make it through the beach on mission 3 on legendary you're shit at every game

>Republic Commando
good taste
when i was younger i would play call of duty finest hour and just watch my npc comrades die while pretending to be doing some saving private ryan esque thing or something

>I want to be carried by NPCs rather than be the one to carry them

Saving Marines is the real challenge in Halo. Any retard can kill aliens.
Best game coming through
Fighting alongside ~200 allies when you can die in one or two hits is the SHIT.
>halo 1 on pc
>second level where you drive around rescuing groups of marines
>would fill warthogs and drive over a cliff by the river
>warthog would flip and the marines would fly out
>look for survivors and try to locate the bodies of any unlucky passengers
>jump off edge of the world to reload and then do it again
>for hours
>halo 2 (maybe it was 3?) comes out and allows you to watch replays of single player levels
>beat a level and then follow the replay from the perspective of each individual marine
>slow motion every time they take a hit
>cheer them on as they do well, feel terrible when they die
Not even a sadism thing. I just really enjoyed watching the AI react in a million different scenarios

This nigga knows what's up.
It's partly why I disliked the second half of the first game. Not only because you were backtracking through places you already knew, but marines disappear after 343. I get that they would have been complete fodder with the flood now in the mix, but I would have really liked a battle scene with all three factions together. Maybe it was too much for hardware at the time to handle.

The short ending run of 343 where about 10 marines run through the swamp with you when you're surrounded by flood is brutal. I usually only have a couple left by the time the ending cutscene starts. The post-marine levels aren't as fun. The covenant and flood fighting is pretty cool but not the same.

The Silent Cartographer is one of my favourite levels in any game ever

Yes i have warband too with mods, no greater feeling than having a big army of low llevel but cheap units and having to do a "kingdoms of heaven" charge where you know you will die.
